I dont really follow the draft to close.  Why were the Vikings able to pull off the trade?  Did some acually believe they were going to take Richardson?

Browns traded up to get Richardson, not far, but didn't want Minnesota to trade the pick and lose him.

Rams went in hoping to land Richardson or Blackmon with their pick, and that blew up on them, so they went with that LSU D lineman, but thought he'd be there (or another DL they were interested in). That almost blew up on them too, but they got that guy, and added a pick.

There's still talent at WR, and they have a lot of things to upgrade. They can get out of this with 4 starters if they do it right. I don't think they lost out, they spun it into a potentially strong positive.

Re: draft thread

People in St. Louis are pretty clueless when it comes to the Rams apparently. Hey, they've won 15 games in the last five and they turned Demarco Murray into Emmitt Smith, so let's ignore defensive tackle!

Remember Tk, the mob made a ton of money in Vegas with a strategy that wasn't much more complex than, "we can attract people into the casino with bright, colorful, twinkling lights."

The Rams overall strategy was sound.  They need picks, and they need as many of them as they can get.  In the end, they have to pick well for it to matter, but given the number of needs they had, increasing the number of picks was a smart play.

I've read and listened to people complaining about the Rams not trading up with Tampa (ala Cleveland) to get Blackmon.  Sure, in hindsight, it only cost Jacksonville a 4th round pick to make the move.  But Cleveland had just spent a 4th, 5th and 7th to move up one spot.  For the Rams to have done something similar would have been just plain dumb.

And someone is going to have to help me.  Brandon Weedon is 28 years old and hasn't played in anything other than a spread offense.  WTF is Cleveland thinking?

Dolphins. The bar for worst ever is set pretty high with JR (I won't say his name out of respect for you) and Leaf for the nfl in general.

Re: draft thread

What I dont understand is why the Browns would trade up a spot just take a player the Vikings had no interest in.  Seems really stupid.

if al davis was still alive, the raiders wouldn't have made it through the day without picking vontaze burfict. hell, they might not have made it through yesterday.

It wasn't about what the Vikings might do.  There were rumors that the Rams might trade up to #3 and take Richardson.  The Browns were trying to prevent that from happening.  Worked out well for Minnesota.

a linebacker who can tackle? that would be a refreshing change.

I guess I understand that.  Pretty smart move by the Vikings then.

Re: draft thread

It will be fun watching the Rams play defense. In two years this might be the most feared secondary in the league. As long as Jenkins stays out of trouble he's going to light it up. Hopefully not the illegal way.

Re: draft thread

Did you read Jenkins' comment when asked if there was reason to compare him to Pac Man Jones?  His answer was something like "it ain't like I ever shot up a strip club."

LMAO!!!

The Bengals go the steal of the draft.

Well, so says Vontaze

He's certainly a character. I've read that some scouts had him ranked higher than Claiborne and that he shut down Alshon Jeffrey, AJ Green and Julio Jones. As long as the Rams keep him away from the sticky, I think he's going to be fine.

And my god, can you imagine the frustration teams are going to have when they're lining up against Finnegan, Jenkins, Johnson, Fletcher and Murphy? If the league still allowed secondaries to get away with bumping and grabbing I'm not sure how you complete a pass against that bunch. They have five extremely physical corners who are going to knock people out. Again, hopefully not literally.

Re: draft thread

I'm intrigued by what the Rams did.  If they hit on Brockers, they're probably one outside linebacker away from a top 10 (or better) defense.

More importantly, this year's draft isn't truly complete until after the 2014 draft when they get the last of the first round picks from Washington.  The Rams had so many holes, this wasn't a team that could turn around from 2-14 to the playoffs.  But if they can come away with 4-6 bona fide players from this draft, coupled with the picks they have in upcoming drafts and the cap space they are creating for themselves, it isn't unreasonable to think they could be back in the mix as early as 2013.

Not to mention, how many other teams drafted at least two players who have been tasered by the police?

Re: draft thread

Miami did okay if Tannehill works out, but I'm dubious of this. I will say that his wife (HOLY SHIT OMFG WTF DID U C THAT SHIT?!?) makes me hopeful. Never want to see one of your stud athletes with an ugly woman, it shows a real lack of confidence (true story, I saw this in moneyball, so it must be true!)
