I really hope someone explains to Matheny that just because he's replacing a genius doesn't mean he has to try to prove his genius to the world.

we can say whatever we want about the decision-making, but if garcia tags up, the game is entirely different, probably with a favorable outcome.
he should have gone back to the bag without having to even think about it.

If Freese makes contact in the 9th, Matheny probably never gets the chance to try that stupid double-steal.
In fact, if Freese makes contact, we might be talking about bad decision making on the part of the Brewers. I never did understand why Roenicke pulled in the infielders with 1st and 3rd and no out.

Freese - 1 for 5 , 3 K's 8 lob ( not sure about risp)

That was crazy. Even if the hit dropped in Garcia could have scored without leaving the bag. Oquendo probably thought it went without saying but next time Garcia gets on third with less then 2 outs Garcia ass better be glued to the bag on a ball hit to the outfield.

Freese is money in the situation he was in in the 9th. I didnt expect the K.

It's disappointing that the Cardinals are 14-8 when they should probably be about 16-6, or if everything had broken right, 18-4. Of course, that's not realistic, but it's still disappointing that they've had a chance to bury Milwaukee and Cincinnati early.
No other team in baseball has a better run differential (Cardinals are +53). They've allowed the second fewest runs in the NL (one fewer than the Natinals) and are tied with Atlanta for the most runs scored.
Yesterday was the first time I thought Matheny shared blame in a loss, with that ridiculously stupid steal attempt that should be left at the legion field. Other than that, the team has been 1-4 in one-run games because of poor execution by the players.

They have done all of this without their best pitcher in 2011 and half of it without their best hitter in 2011.

Looks like another so-so outing by Miller but Sanchez posted zeros. Any chance they cut Greene and play Jackson everyday.
