Not playing is actually an improvement.

Apparently Slappy didn't agree.

"And the three-time NL MVP wasn't happy about it. When a group of reporters approached his locker, Pujols said: 'Go ask the manager, not me, guys. I don't make the lineup.'"

Re: Albert Pujols Gamecrap

What a prick.  I mean is is sucking, hurting the team and likely costing them games.  But no, dont sit poor Pujols.  Why he hasnt been dropped in the lineup as well is unbelievable.

I don't wish the guy ill, but at this point you can't help wanting to see how bad it can get. I was thinking the other night, when the game was still fairly close, if there might come a point where Scioscia pulls him for a pinch hitter.

FWIW, the Angels won last night while Slappy sat on the bench.  I doubt Scioscia has the stones to do it again.  Be even funnier if Pujols returns and they lose.

ETA: Anaheim finally got a home run from a 1st baseman.  Bet they didn't expect the first, first baseman to hit a home run in 2012 would be Mark Trumbo.

Re: Albert Pujols Gamecrap

It is pretty clear having both Trumbo and Morales in  the lineup at the same time gives them the best chance to win.  Meaning in the infield and the outfield of Hunter, Wells and Tout.  I would move Pujols to third.  It isnt like they built this team for the future.

Re: Albert Pujols Gamecrap

Why do Pujols' rump swabs always conveniently leave out the part where he said he was about winning championships in St. Louis, and not taking the money elsewhere?

Re: Albert Pujols Gamecrap

From the replay I saw he looked like he watch the thing land from the batters box.  Still a dick.

Re: Albert Pujols Gamecrap

Pujols currently has (over 29 Team Games or ~5.586 of a full season)
112 At Bats (Pace: 625.6)
.196 Batting Average
22 Hits  (Pace: 122.9)
10 Runs (Pace: 55.9)
7 RBIs (Pace: 39.1)
1 HR (Pace: 5.6)

To get to his normal majestic numbers of .300 / 30 / 100 / 100?
He needs 1 HR every 17.7 at bats for the rest of the year.
He needs 1 RBI every 5.5 at bats for the rest of the year.
He needs 1 Run every 5.7 at bats for the rest of the year.
He would need 188 hits to get to .300, or get a hit every 2.74 at bats for the rest of the year (hitting .367 for the rest of the season, 188 for 513.6)

Who's betting he doesn't hit these 4 numbers? His average is so bad right now, it's looking really unlikely he gets anywhere over .285

Re: Albert Pujols Gamecrap

His career HR per AB is 14.4
His career RBI per AB is 4.8
His career run per AB is 4.9

He is still within reach of a Pujols type year if he started being himself.

Re: Albert Pujols Gamecrap

AP, offhand you know what his numbers were for last season only? I didn't look it up, but think that might be a more accurate measuring stick for Pujols, given this is now a trend of possible decline.

Re: Albert Pujols Gamecrap

He hit .299 with 30someodd home runs and 99 RBIs I think.

He's pretty much in his decline phase, but I don't think anyone expected his decline to hit so suddenly and so dramatically. I don't think he's anywhere close to being finished and would expect him to finish somewhere around .280/.350/.520, which would be pretty good considering where he's at right now.

Two years ago it appears Pujols made a conscious decision to start swinging at everything close to the plate. He's hitting line drives at a tremendous rate and his ground ball rate is down, which leads me to believe his tendency to swing at everything explains most of this start. If/when Pujols decides to stop swinging at trash, he'll be the Machine again.

Top 1st: LA Angels
- A. Pujols grounded out to shortstop, M. Izturis scored

Hey, he's driving in runs ...

Two RBI tonight.  Raised his average to .198.  He's on fire.

I remember a point and time when Pujols could get a strike and was expanding the zone.

Re: Albert Pujols Gamecrap

Pujols has full recovered from his HR going 1-9 in the next two games.

Re: Albert Pujols Gamecrap

ZIPS updated projection for Pujols is 28/85/.267.  That is pretty low and still I think it will be hard for him to reach it.

At least they're only paying him $12 million this season.

In 2011, Mark Trumbo gave Anaheim almost those exact same numbers (.254/29/87) and he did it for $400K.
