Ugh. Wainwright better find his 2009-10 form in a hurry. I'm sure this lineup has Matt Cain shaking in his cleats.
The Cardinals lineup:
1. Schumaker 2b
2. Carpenter RF
3. Holliday LF
4. Berkman 1b
5. Freese 3b
6. Molina c
7. Descalso SS
8. Robinson CF
9. Wainwright P

As hideous as I feared.

That turned out as well as one could hope for against Cain.

Wainwright is getting hit hard.

Sticking a converted infielder with about 50 games of major league experience in right field on a windy day at AT&T Park will probably go down as Matheny's worst idea so far.

I am tired of all this rinky-dink hit shit.

It's a good thing Freese hit last night because he has been sucking something fierce with the glove.

McClellan is done, Boggs is heading that way and Marte is going to run of pixie dust in a couple of weeks. This bullpen is about to become a nightmare.

What a mess of a ballgame. The Cardinals' pitching was bad, the defense was worse and every hit the Giants got in this series except for maybe two was either a seeing eye grounder or a bloop. I nearly threw my shoe at the TV when Brandon Belt hit a ground ball off his thumbs that rolled about 150 feet and he ended up on second base. And then he does his little stutter step going from second to third to distract Freese. Freese still should have made the throw, but that's ARod stuff. I would have stuck one in his ear the next time he was up.
And I don't want to get into the umpiring. Dana DeMuth doesn't care about how well he does his job anymore. He's not the reason the Cardinals lost today, but geezus, call a consistent strike zone, will ya?
I've also come to the determination I don't like this ballpark. The Giants might be able to sell a few more postcards and snow globes of a ballpark on the water than they would at a ballpark on an inland site, but it's a stupid idea, especially in the windiest city in North America. It's too big, and it's laid out wrong. The sun field should be right field, not center.
Good thing I'm not getting worked up about these games this season.

Maybe it is a good thing I missed the game. Looks like a sloppy one. Did Wainwright look like shit again? And when will McCellan be sent to exile?

1. Yes
2. McClellan left with "elbow discomfort" which means he'll go to the DL, come back and pitch terribly for two weeks then have surgery. I really have no idea what the Cardinals were thinking bringing him back.

"Did Wainwright look like shit again?"
He's still got the cajones, but hasn't regained his command yet. And the floating strike zone made it even harder for him. It seemed like he went to a 3-2 count on every other batter. And there were two huge errors. Berkman coughed up a ground ball that cost him, and then Freese let the go-ahead run score when he made a low throw on what should have been a routine inning-ending out (and it wasn't necessarily a difficult pick for Berkman, BTW).

I turned on the post game and heard the interview by McCellan. I took it as good news, in that he would no longer be on the roster. I wonder who will get the call. I would assume Cleto or Dickson. Fick, Freeman and Riefer are the other minor league pitchers on the 40 man.

McClellan and Craig are going on the DL. I wouldn't expect to see K-Mac again this season.

Sometime in March or so I thought this season had all the feeling of 2007. Maybe it's because the Cardinals have been shit after all of their recent championship defenses, but damn if we aren't seeing another '07 play out.

Craig? That is unexpected.

Terrific. Now the Cardinals have four middle infielders who can't hit.

Strauss:
"Team orthopedist Dr. Lyndon Gross examined Craig's strained left hamstring before Thursday's game. Craig did not participate in baseball-related activities Thursday after notifying trainers of discomfort Thursday night following a sliding attempt at an eighth-inning fly ball.
"Craig, who came off the disabled list May 1, attempted to downplay the condition as a day-to-day situation before Thursday's loss to the San Francisco Giants. The club's stance was different following the game.
"Memphis outfielder Adron Chambers and righthander Brandon Dickson are expected to take the vacated roster spots."
