Pitcher who once won as many as 14 games in a season retires

There are people at Wrigley Field crying right now because Carrie Woods has thrown his last pitch. Imagine how much emotion they would have shown for a pitcher who has actaully accomplished something.

For as much crap as Prior has been given about his desire I have to take alot of it back.  The guy is still trying to make it back.  You have to have desire to be willing to play in triple A just for the small chance to make it back to the bigs.  It has been seven years since he has pitched over 100 innings.

I wouldnt blast Wood either.  He has 86 wins and 63 saves in 14 years.  Sure he hasnt been as good as pitcher as the Chicago fan base hyped him up to be but he has Done some good things.  He is another guy that has been unselfish in what role he has taken.  Even now he is walking away instead of dragging it out.

I think Cardinals fans dislike those two because of the team they started with but it isnt like they are Zambrano annoying.  They seem like decent guys.

Wood seems decent, and I guess I'd have to be a Cub fan to understand the attachment to him, so I really don't understand the crying.

Dont get me wrong.  I wont cry when Kyle McCellan hangs his hat up.  But I think we are forgetting that 2003 was the Cubs World Series.

He doesnt have 63 saves.  Wood only had a bad year or two.  Injuries derailed him and he never was the Cy Young Cub Fan wanted him to be.  I wouldnt cry because he wants to play more golf but he has had an honorable big league career.
