Re: 5/21 GC vs. Padres

It's Clayton RICHARD, not Kershaw. Richard. Adjust the bats accordingly.

Re: 5/21 GC vs. Padres

It hasn't been pretty to watch, but it's a gorgeous night at the park. Today was the kids' last day of school and I was able to pick up tickets in the 6th row of the left field bleachers for $6/each on Stub Hub. It's about 70 degrees, nice breeze and loads of female talent. Even my wife asked if I noticed the rack on the girl sitting behind me and too my right.

Hopefully they've been playing enough World Series footage to counteract the travesty that's happening there tonight.

Re: 5/21 GC vs. Padres

Are you guys getting Dick Enberg and Mark Grant? They're calling the game like it's "Meet the Padres." And there are no commercials.

I came in just in time to hear Enberg tell me Carpenter's double was a home run. He needs to retire and crawl back up Don Shula's ass.

Re: 5/21 GC vs. Padres

My idiot high school coach would have complimented Carpenter for not hitting the ball too hard.

Re: 5/21 GC vs. Padres

I don't know about this. Boggs' slider was nasty tonight.

Re: 5/21 GC vs. Padres

If Greene could fill in between his awesome games with games that dont totally suck he would be a good ball player.

Motte picks up the blown save and the win.  He is tied for 4th on the team with 3 wins.

Re: 5/21 GC vs. Padres

Make no mistake, they won that game in spite of Matheny, not because of him. Allowing Garcia to hit with 8 outs left was just plain dumb. He worked out of a bases loaded jam in the 7th because the bottom of San Diego's lineup is awful. San Diego had the top of their order: two righties and a switch hitter coming up. Garcia had no business starting that inning. The fact that Garcia happened to luck into an infield hit doesn't change the fact that the decision was stupid.

They got very lucky tonight.

I am suprised that Matheny is having such trouble with the pitching staff.  Maybe bring in a pitching coach with MLB time would have been helpfull.

Re: 5/21 GC vs. Padres

Cashner's pitch to Greene was clocked at 101 mph and is the fastest pitch hit for a home run since 2009.

Not one of Matheny's finer moments thus far. I'm sure his rationale was that Garcia's pitch count was low and he had only given up one run to that point, but you've got to pinch hit for him there.
And he bungled the eighth inning. Enberg kept saying Scrabble pitched around Alonso. You don't use the only lefty in your pen to issue a 4-pitch walk and then yank him. And there was no need to pull Boggs. He had just retired a lefty hitter on a couple of ungodly sliders that Headley missed by a foot.
And there could have just as easily been runners on first and third with no outs and two outs and no one on in the ninth.
The proper strategy would have been to pinch hit for Garcia, have Boggs start the eighth, hold Scrabble in reserve for Headley and/or Alonso, and have Motte pitch the ninth.

Re: 5/21 GC vs. Padres

If it was Wainwright and Carpenter in their best form I wouldnt understand leaving a pitcher in Garcia's situation because those two have the ablity to control the rest of the game.  However Garcia always falls apart at some point.  If you have gone through 7 innings and he hasnt jammed himself up you need to figure it is coming and yank him.
