Hang by the phone, Don. If someone gets hurt tonight, you may be the next one called up.

"I faced Cecil Upshaw , when he pitched for Centenary College in Shreveport"

The second most famous athlete to attend Centenary, after Robert Parish?

Re: 5/22 Gamecrap

Not when I played , at the time we were D11, associated with both NCAA and NAIA, why I don't know . We did play schools like LSU, Tulane, etc. . The conference back then was called Gulf States Conference , (La, Tech. , McNeese St. , Northeast La. now La. Monroe, Southwestern LA. now Louisiana Lafayette, Southeastern La. , Nicholls St.)

Did you play Southern? I know Lou Brock went there, but he might be a little older than you.

Re: 5/22 Gamecrap

No, he's 5 years older than me and at that time it was unheard of for a predominately white college to play an all black school although NSU (formerly NSC) was the first school to play Grambling in basketball in the mid sixties . Some of us on the baseball  team would go over to Grambling to watch a guy by the name of Ralph "gator" Garr play . He could play . Believe he lead the National League in hitting one year .....

Re: 5/22 Gamecrap

Ralph Garr. Sure. He played with Aaron on the Braves in the early '70s.
I almost went to Tulane. My dad wanted me to go there, but I had my mind made up on Arizona State. In hindsight, I would have lasted about three days in Nawlins before I ended up face down on Bourbon Street, or had everything I owned stolen. Or both.
