Re: 6/24 GC @ KC

If Carp comes back in a month or so and the rotation is looking just like it is today I would skip Lynn a start or two.  Maybe even send him to the DL.  If this team is going to make a run they need him at 100%.

MIAMI • Not so fast on the happy talk about Chris Carpenter's recovery. The Cardinals righthander was unable to pitch to hitters as planned today because he "didn't feel strong" when he woke up this morning.

Carpenter, who is trying to recover from nerve-related shoulder weakness and has not pitched competitively this season, threw a 34-pitch session against Cardinals hitters on Friday in Kansas City.

Afterward, Carpenter and the team left open the possibility of him embarking soon on a rehab assignment. The next step in the process was to have been another session today against hitters.

After the workout was canceled, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said: "We'll wait to get him back home before we determine what's next."

Matheny refused to characterize today's development as a setback, adding that's it's possible Carpenter could throw again later this week depending on how he feels.
