Completely off topic, but anyone else ever watch the show American Ninja Warrior? My kids love the show which is a ridiculous obstacle course largely designed for gymnast sized people. Kamerion Wimbley, the Titans DE just completed the semi-final course. Watching a guy that size do these stunts is pretty darn impressive.
Yeah, and it's pretty entertaining.
Wimbley was a Raiders' salary cap casualty. So they go through next season without a linebacker that can tackle. But Terrelle Pryor is their 3rd string QB. So they've got that going for them. Which is nice.Pryor was signed to take over the JeMarcus Russell role.
Guarantee me $51 million and I could show up hungover and fall asleep during team meetings too.

All part of the plan, TK. Matheny knew Gaudin has never gotten Joe Kelly out.

FSM just played audio that confirmed it was Davidson's screw up. Someone's going to have to explain that to me. Matheny tells Davidson he's making the double switch in the 7 spot, Davidson tells Guillen that we're switching the 5 spot and somehow we have to pay for Davidson's mistake? That's beyond stupid.

Davidson needs to go. Tonight. It's sad. He used to be a decent umpire. Did someone here post a link to a story a couple of weeks ago that described him as "baseball's angry old man" or did I read that somewhere else?

During his interview, Matheny took the blame. Microphones clearly picked up Davidson saying it was his fault.
Maybe Ozzie Guillen will blame Castro.

How did that happen? It was on but i wasnt really watching then. How does a mLB manager fuck up a double switch?

Although Matheny accepted some blame after the game, I think that was simply him saying "we won, I don't want to piss off the umps." Davidson clearly told Guillen he "fucked it up." Unless someone interviews Davidson (which I don't think is allowed), we'll probably never know, but the best guess is that Matheny told Davidson that Marte was going into the 7th spot in the lineup, Greene was staying in the game at 2nd base and Descalso, who had been playing 2nd, was moving to 3rd (the "5" position). Davidson heard "5" and told Guillen that Marte was going into the 5th spot in the lineup, not the 7th spot. Since Davidson's lineup card is the official card, his mistake became official, even though that wasn't what Matheny wanted or communicated.

Seems like something that should and could be advoided. I figured when managers make changes on lineup it would be in writen form. Why wouldnt it be? Then if there is an issue they could reference back to the writen change. None the less if Davidson knew he fucked up then fix it. Did he actually say he fucked it up. I believe the umps can make themself available to the media if they want.

"Did he actually say he fucked it up."
The umps didn't speak to the media, but a boom mic near the field caught Davidson telling Guillen "I fucked it up."

Still seems like it could have been caught or prevented. Why didnt davidson wonder why Matheny was double switching out Craig?

I am not ready to throw Matheny under the bus yet. His main problem has been that when the team slumped he couldnt catch them like TLR did. It was the first time he dealt with such issues. The team is 4 games over .500 and just two games back.

The Cardinals have been doing all this while I've been dairy-free. My wife decided we were going to eat healthier. You should have seen the look on my son's face when green beans replaced his usual serving of Tater Tots the other night.

He was on point until the 10-point advisory toward the close of the column. That was a little over the top.

It kind of turned into a rant towards the end didnt it. Even throwing those 10 points out I have never seen an UMP hammered that hard in a column. Davidson had it coming though. I am having a hard time feeling sorry for the umps this year. Normally I think they do a pretty good job.

There's got to be more to Bernie's ire than just a lineup snafu. And the shots at Layne were a little unfair. Layne is probably sicker than anyone of Bob Davidson's antics.
I think the umps usually do a good job too, but it seems like there's one egregious mistake every night this season. The third base ump missed a call on a foul ball in Yankee Stadium last night. I don't know how he missed it. The left fielder went into the stands for a foul ball, and the ump ruled he caught it, even though the ball bounced around for awhile and ended up in the hands of a fan. And I think the batter from the Indians who hit the ball got tossed for arguing afterwards.

Replay isnt something I want. I agree it would help if the ump were held to soem kind of standard. Not that I am for it but I also wonder what it would be like to have balls and strikes called by a computer. How would it effect the hitters and pitchers if it was 100% fair?
