"Bernie has a little fun"
The first part was typical Bernie bombast, but the second part that begins with "A few point to consider" was spot on. Neither Cueto nor Phillips was deemed worthy by either the fans or the players (the latter group probably being just as offended by Cueto's karate kicks to Carpenter's back and LaRue's skull as the Cardinals were. And I can't imagine the players are particularly keen on Phillips' showboating like it's all about him).
Also interesting that Bernie points out Holliday and Aaron Hill, at least going by the offensive numbers, are worthier than Bruce and Phillips, respectively. Of course, Bruce and Phillips are much better defensive players, something that hasn't seemed to factor into the selection process since Ozzie Smith retired.

This whole thing is dumb. I cant believe it. the all star game doesnt even matter. Baker needs a hobby or something. I cant even believe that he thinks he is right.

I will say that he keeps things interesting. No other manager keeps pointless drama around like he does. Even TLR, when he was being a drama queen, did it to protect his players. The Baker vs TLR saga would make a nice book.

"The Baker vs TLR saga would make a nice book."
Someone already wrote it. It's called "The Great Gatsby."

Rumor has it that Cueto might be filing a grievance.
I am so glad that instead of focusing on the final week before the ASB, the Reds are bitching about snubs.

On what grounds? Gender bias?

I love the agent's quote: "I'm not going to complain, but I'm going to complain." His schtick is covered in Chapter 1 of the Passive-Aggressive Manual. "I'll take Millon's Subtypes for $200, Alex ..."
If I'm La Russa, I offer to write out a $25,000 check and donate it to Cueto's favorite charity.

John Fay should stick to writing about the Reds. If he read that language and concluded that a pitcher can't be passed over because he's pitching on Sunday, he's an idiot. Here's the langauge:
(ii) Sunday Pitcher Rule. Any starting pitcher elected or selected to the All-Star team who makes a start on the Sunday immediately preceding the All-Star Game (“Sunday Pitcher†) shall have the option to participate or not participate in the All-Star Game. If such starting pitcher elects to participate in the All-Star Game, he will not be permitted to pitch for more than one inning, and he may also inform his manager that he should be removed from the game if he reaches a certain pitch count (irrespective of whether he has completed one inning), provided such pitch count is reasonable. If a Sunday Pitcher who was originally named to the team elects not to participate in the All-Star Game, he will be replaced on the roster but treated in the same manner as other All-Stars who are excused from participation, and he will be encouraged to attend and be announced at the All-Star Game.
Maybe there's more elsewhere in the CBA, but that section is nothing more than a set of guidelines covering what happens if a pitcher who pitched on Sunday IS selected to the ASG. Nothing in that language says a manager can't decline to offer an invitation to the game.

I like Borowsky take. At first I thought there was nothing to this deal and Baker was just being Baker. Now I am leaning toward TLR throwing the last punch. It is true that the score was never settled. Now TLR gets an unppercut and Baker cant throw a punch. Old school baseball says these scores get settled in one way shape or form. TLR is doing it epicly. Sure it is childish but I cant think of a better way for him to go out. Just like baseball etiquette says, he will denie it.
"LARRY BOROWSKY (Editor of the “Viva El Birdos 2012 Baseball Annual†)
I do think the snub of Cueto was deliberate. Cueto’s actions in the August 2010 brawl remain outrageous, and the Cardinals never truly settled that score – probably for fear that the commissioner’s office would have imposed a severe penalty if the Cards retaliated. But just because he’s retired doesn’t mean TLR has stopped competing. He wouldn’t be inclined to let an act as egregious as Cueto’s go unpunished.
Might have been fun to see Cueto pitch to Yadier Molina in the ASG, though. Yadi would have put down one finger on every pitch – and not to call for a fastball. And Cueto might have become the first All-Star to get injured on a return throw from his catcher . . .
As for Phillips, I think that case was deemed closed back on August 10, 2010, when he tapped Yadi’s shinguards and Molina got in his face and told Phillips what the Cardinals thought of him. St. Louis fans still hold a grudge against Phillips, but I think the Cardinal clubhouse delivered its message and moved on."

If he does that then Cueto needs to write Larue a check for a couple million for the extra couple years he stole from him in the leauge.

I like Deadspin, but they're being jackasses about the whole thing.

Oh yeah, and Cincinnati's obsession with the St. Louis Cardinals is reaching absurd levels. Even Hal McCoy is acting insane about the whole thing.

In reality the Reds are just making it worst for themselfs. If they would have acted like it was no big deal TLR wouldnt have got the last laugh.

He got what amounted to a 1-start suspension for kicking two other players with baseball spikes. That probably has a lot to do with him finishing as poorly as he did in the players' poll. Guys don't forget stuff like that. And there are players who will never respect him.
It's like that Russian hockey player who kicked the Canadian defenseman during the '72 Summit Series. NBC produced a feature about the Series a couple of years ago and Phil Esposito still wants to kill the guy.

I guess you have to look at it from the Reds' perspective. The Cardinals have mostly dominated them for the past 15 years, and they're sick of it. Two years ago, they finally get to the playoffs and they get humiliated.
Dusty's was off the reservation about the Cardinals and La Russa in particular even before he got to Cincinnati, and the players he likes to attract help him carry out his grudge.

I don't go on Deadspin or Barstool anymore because it just takes too long to download all their ads. And I'm not really interested in buying a "Who Farted? t-shirt anyway.
