I can't imagine anything more boring than a movie with Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn.

What's this nonsense about a meeting to call a truce?

Fuentes, the American League saves leader in 2009, received his release from the Oakland A's last week and chose an opportunity to revive his career with the defending World Series champions over several other suitors.
Virtually discarded by the A's several weeks before his release, Fuentes will report to the club's minor-league headquarters in Jupiter, Fla. to begin an assignment with its Gulf Coast League team. Fuentes may opt out of the deal if not promoted to the parent club by July 31; however, the Cardinals have assigned him to a seven-day throwing program, suggesting that Fuentes could appear in St. Louis well before baseball's non-waiver trade deadline.
"He once was a dominant pitcher," said general manager John Mozeliak, who formalized the deal late Friday night. "Even if he gets partly back to where he could help add depth from the left side but by getting righthanders out, it would be important."
So was Bob Feller.

When Votto and Beltran have a conversation at first base, do you think it's about the history of Franco-Germanic conflicts in the 20th century?

Not that I deserve any sympathy from you Midwesterners, but it's 87 degrees in my TV room right now. At 10 p.m.

We don't have central air. It's really not necessary here. At least it wasn't necessary until global warming. We have two room a/c's - one in my son's room and in one in our room, but if you're on the first floor, your only relief is a ceiling fan.

It really doesnt get that hot? That would be nice. I hate the summer. No way in hell would I allow the house to be over 80 degrees. I couldnt take it. Now in the winter it wouldnt bug me if the house was 50 degree.

Chapman has made a lot of hitters look silly. Even good ones.
This one isn't on Joe West, but he didn't help the Cardinals last night. You can argue Berkman shouldn't have taken a pitch that close with two strikes, but Berkman is a pretty good judge of the strike zone.
The more damaging call was not giving the same pitch to Boggs with a 1-0 count on Ludwig. He gets that call, he's in the count. Instead, it's a ball, he pitches around Ludwig and now he has to be careful with Rolen.
Again, Joe West didn't leave a small village on base, but those were two crucial calls that went against the Cardinals.
And none of what happened to Boggs in the bottom of the eighth matters if Scrabble doesn't go all Glenn Hall on Bruce's ground ball. You can't ever criticize a pitcher for trying to make a play on a ball hit up the middle, but looking at where Furcal was positioned, it would he been as easy an inning-ending double play as you'll ever see.
Good teams overcome bad breaks and bad calls. The Cardinals aren't a good team right now.
And let's give Homer Bailey some credit, especially since he wasn't supposed to pitch in the first place. He's not a hey-look-at-me guy. The Reds could use about a dozen more of those.

Ill give westbrook some credit to. He did a fine job.

"It really doesnt get that hot?"
In the sense it's never around 100 degrees for a week straight like you guys had earlier in the month.
We'll get 4-5 days in a row of 90-plus a couple of times every summer, and we're in one of those right now, but 100 degrees is a rare event. We'll maybe have one or two of those a year.
Remember, we're right on the ocean, so hot and cold isn't as extreme for us.

He really did. He's pitched well lately. His only egregious mistake last night was plunking Phillips. I assume they were trying to bust him in to set up the off-speed pitch away, and it just got away from him.

Id still have central air. We didnt get it at home till I was in high school and my grandparents still dont have it. They run one window unit on 75 degrees. It does no good. Instead of chasing warm climate weather when I retire I am moving north. When we moved into our house the first big expense I invested into it was having the heating and air upgraded. I dont mind being hot and sweating but not when I am sitting around the house. I guess living in the midwest my whole life I dont understand that everyones summer doesnt feel like 3 months of hell.

I watched the game a BWWs last night so I wasnt really into it. In fact I havent sat down and watched a game in awhile. It is hard to enjoy a game the right way when you just pick up bits and pieces. I was fine with Phillips getting plunked. By that point, after see runners left on base all night I knew they would find a way to fuck it up.

Ours is coming back. It's supposed to be 98 today and surpass 100 the next 3 days. Bob starts football camp this evening. They're not in pads, but he's been limited to drinking water or gatoraide since Friday.
The weather here has been completely bizarre. Friday evening, Madison had a softball game. There was a huge dark cloud overhead and during the game it got windy and the temperature dropped at least 10-15 degrees. You just knew it was about to storm, but then nothing happened. Saturday afternoon, we had a similar dark cloud and there was lightning and thunder for 2 hours, but not a drop of rain fell.
