Hey. Oregon has a punter. Who knew?

3 to go. The Washington game was really a lot more worrying then the final score would indicate. Oregon's defense stood tall, only giving up 16 despite some issues. Washington also has no concept whatsoever of defending kickoff/punts. That helped. We'll need to play sharper however the next three weeks in the first half.
Still it's hard to bitch when your team wins by 37, although the first half was shockingly close for a long while there.
On to California, also without their starting quarterback. This should be a romp, but it's a conference game on the road. I think with what happened against Washington, the team will probably come out firing and not taking their foot off the gas until they have 50 up.

Well clearly, I was wrong about this. Jesus Christ that was a grind.
Anyway, 2 games left, and Oregon gets a week to rest before coming into them. Arizona coming into Autzen. This is a game we could lose, but probably not at home. I'll deal with Oregon State when it gets here. Thomas is starting to overthrow deep balls, and because of this, leaving a lot of points on the table. There were a strong number of plays where we had coverage beat, and he missed the throws. That needs to improve. Other than that, I liked the way the defense stepped up and played hard. Anyway. Arizona coming to town in 2 weeks, let's get after it Ducks!!!

I think your answer lies somewhere in the notion that Cal is definitely a much better team at home, Alz.
Pity my poor Sun Devils. Four minutes away from knocking off the #6 team in the BCS poll, and Burfict gets flagged for a face mask penalty he didn't commit.

Next up! Arizona. We're back in Autzen Stadium and coming off a bye week. Arizona dropped their last 2 games, but should not be taken lightly. I think Oregon wins this one without too much scare.
Go Ducks!

This ought to be an interesting game. The U to A has the closest thing to a good defensive team as there is in the conference, and the Duckies are coming off their worst offensive performance of the season.
The only thing that's certain is that win or lose, Stoops will whine and say something completely insulting about Oregon in the post-game press conference. Probably about how the crowd noise from the mean old Ducks' fans distracted his poor Puddytats.

Mike might be worse than his brother. He just doesn't get as much attention because UofA isn't a national program like Oklahoma. Some of the stuff that falls out of his mouth about ASU is incredible. A couple of years ago, he called ASU a remedial school or some such nonsense. ASU isn't Stanford, but if an in-state kid gets acceptance letters from ASU and UofA, there's really no choice, unless he or she plans to go into growing soybeans or copper mining as a career.

That and ASU is Party School USA. I worked with a guy in college who was going down there for spring break.

Have you heard from him since his liver transplant?
Seriously, ASU is a ghost town during spring break, at least when I was there. Forty percent of the students go to Mexico, 40 percent go to Lake Havasu, and the idiots stay and work. I spent the week sitting at a desk at my work-study assignment listening to the phone not ring.

I forget the purpose of his trip. I can't remember if he had a bunch of friends he was going to party with or see some girl.
I think he told me that a bunch of wild and crazy ASU kids were going to be at a party in Chicago and he was going up there for it. He was quite the partier. I remember him walking around taking giant gulps from a bottle of Jameson on St. Patrick's Day.

I think half of the ASU undergrad population graduated from a high school within 30 miles of the Sears Tower. And a good number of them stay in Phoenix. Look at the crowd next time you watch a Cubs/Diamondbacks game at Chase Field. About 75 percent of the crowd wears blue pajamas.

Arizona's great defense has already allowed 14 points 20 minutes into the game. This one is over.

Did you see Stoops put on his Manning Face when his DB got called for a personal foul on the fumble? Priceless.

It was a terrible call, but watching Stupes get all whiny was worth it.
Anyone else think Auburn will beat Oregon by about four touchdowns?

I think you're out of your mind there, but I won't get into a discussion we won't get to see settled for 5 more weeks.
Oregon has played 3 ranked opponents, and beaten them by 21, 21, 19. One was on the road. Another was against the #4/5 team in the nation (Stanford). They've had one game that was anywhere close. I understand thinking Auburn is a tough opponent, but I wouldn't run off calling Oregon a 28 point dog. I'll be happy to spot you a fifty that says Oregon covers 28 should they play for it all....

Strange. My wife says the same thing every half-hour or so.

The final countdown. @Oregon State. A game I don't like for a plethora of reasons. 1) Oregon State is home. 2) Oregon State needs a win to be bowl Eligible. 3) It's Oregon State, and a serious rivalry. 4) Oregon State is under no pressure to win this game, and frankly not expected to.
What I like. Attitude. Oregon understands where they are, and what is at stake. They know what can be lost by looking at the BCS Title game, instead of the Civil War game and Oregon State. I like that Oregon has 5 road wins, including @USC (ranked 20 at the time, and it was basically their super bowl as they are bowl ineligible). I like the poise. They made some gaffes and at times they play loose coverage. I like the fact that the Cal game actually had about 6 plays where there was a score right there, and the throw or catch was just blown. Nobody has stopped Oregon but Oregon.
Kelly always seems to have Oregon ready, and grounded. They understand that if they win, they will get a ticket to the big game. They also understand that is still an "if".
Oregon close at the half, up 7 points. Runs off in the second have to win by 24.
42-17 (Pac-10 Title, National Championship Game Appearance).

Honestly if Auburn leads out against an Oregon team the same way they led out against Alabama, the Ducks will skin them alive. We are usually digging ourselves out of a halftime hole to be honest, but the tempo will eventually win the day.
Also.... Auburn isn't there yet either, if they drop the SEC Title game to South Carolina, I think that puts TCU right there with a legitimate claim to the game.

Yes. Assuming that Malzone hasn't left for Vanderbilt or some other head coaching job by then. Otherwise, I'll go with Oregon.

I think I could coach Cam Newton. Successfully. Unfortunately, he's probably the second coming of Vince Young as far as the NFL types are concerned.

Maybe you could but I've seen two games this season in which Malzone's game plan was the difference for Auburn, if you count watching most of the second half of the Arkansas game as watching a game. Newton is a great athlete and a smart one too but with most coaches in the country every game would be a toss-up. He'd be running all over the field displaying his spectacular athleticism and surprising everyone in the stadium with his moves, including his own players. Instead, against both Arkansas and Alabama, Auburn played the game like the clock wouldn't run out until they got the lead and they wore the defense down to the point where it bore no resemblance to the one that took the field in the first quarter.
Addendum: I picked up the spelling of Malzahn, or whatever, from a friend of mine who's a Vanderbilt alum. He told me they had gotten permission from Auburn to interview "Malzone" for the head coaching job and he's a lot smarter than I am. I thought at the time that the name was a little more unconventional but decided to defer to my betters without looking it up.
