Orel just said the Cardinals have only won 19 series so far. That's pretty terrible.
Especially after winning eight of their first nine (counting the opener as a series).
Yikes I didn't even realize that. Worse, they were 20-11 on May 11, which means it took almost three months to play better than .500. This season can only be described as frustrating.

More craziness...
-St. Louis is just 13-9 since the ASB.
-As a team, they're averaging over 5 runs per game.
-They have a team OPS of .808.
-They have a team team OBP of .360, which is ridiculous
-They have given up just 66 runs, or 3 runs per game
-The pitching staff has given up just 11 home runs in 195 innings
-They have walked less than 2.5 batters per nine innings
Now tell me, how is this team, which now has a run differential of +110, only 10 games above .500? It is beyond comprehension at this point.

I was thinking the same thing while Hershiser was going over those numbers last night. They've just started a stretch where they play 16-of-19 games at home, interrupted by a trip to Philly this weekend, followed by a 10-game road trip at Cinci, Pittsburgh and Washington. They need to leave for that long trip probably no fewer than three games behind the Reds and no worse than tied for the wild card.
With the exception of four games in L.A., the sked is pretty easy from Sept. 3-28, before they close out the regular season with home series against the Nationals and TTTIB.
On a completely different note, does Orel Hershiser have a brother named Anel?

It's truly been feast or famine. Are Matheny and Krzyszewski related?

If they would have hired anyone but Matheny this season wouldnt be where it is now. I think Matheny will end up being fine but learning on the job isnt something that should be done. That is becoming more clear every passing week.

In case anyone missed it, the Cubs called Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters a.k.a. Rickey Henderson and Mike Schmidt yesterday. Now they've paired him with Albert Pujols a.k.a. Anthony Rizzo. We're really effed now.
