Re: 8/24 GC @ Reds

This has to be the tallest umpiring crew in MLB history.

Re: 8/24 GC @ Reds

When did the Reds acquire a right-handed, Latin American Rick Ankiel?

Re: 8/24 GC @ Reds

I'm trying to think of how big a lead needs to be until I'm comfortable. Probably four or five.

Try settling for three, with their big hitters coming up ...

Re: 8/24 GC @ Reds

I keep starting and aborting posts raving about the hitter Craig's become. The reason I cancel them is that I haven't let go of his being pulled in the 9th of Sunday's 19 inning affair. Regardless of his baserunning, at the time he had 2 of the team's 3 hits.

There; now that's finally off my chest.

At the risk of getting overly excited about one game of 162 ...
Damn, this was a good one to get.

Yes. Axford can't throw his slider for a strike anymore, so they're just sitting on his fastball. Serves him right for forming the Klan.

"I keep starting and aborting posts raving about the hitter Craig's become."

He needs to be the everyday first baseman. Period.

Re: 8/24 GC @ Reds

Just notices this when I looked at the box score.

In 5 innings pitched, Kelly, Salas and Mujica struck out 11.

Re: 8/24 GC @ Reds

I don't care that Beckett is having a shit season; the Dodgers adding him and Gonzalez is a huge deal. Getting the WC just got more difficult.

Kelly struck out five in a row at one point, and Salas struck out the side (!) in the inning he pitched. Don is right. If they can get Salas going and somehow get a lefty to throw strikes consistently, the Cardinals will have a formidable bullpen.
