8/31 Gamecrap

Don't care; not watching. But Carpenter is getting more aggressive in throwing off the mound. He threw a simulated game today.

Re: 8/31 Gamecrap

I wonder what role he could have with the club?  Surely he cant build his arm up to start.

Re: 8/31 Gamecrap

One of the talking heads was saying the other night he could be used in a late inning relief role.

Re: 8/31 Gamecrap

Furcal to the 15-day DL; Kozma up and starting at short.
Good idea. When you've scored one unearned run in three games, you really want to get Pete Kozma's bat in the lineup to jump-start the offense.

Re: 8/31 Gamecrap

Furcal hit .174 in June, .247 in July and .227 in August.  I dont think his bat is going to be to hard to replace and it has been pointed out many times that the olny people who believe he is an exelent fielder is the broadcast crew and the reporters for the post dispatch.

Re: 8/31 Gamecrap

On the plus side, a couple more of these and we won't have to hear more of this nonsense about the Cardinals' run differential.

Re: 8/31 Gamecrap

Amazingly, they're still playing five games under their pythag.

Lots of people want to see some accountability, but really, what can they do? Beltran is likely feeling the grind of a long, hot summer. Freese is just too inconsistent. Furcal has been hurt for awhile. They're getting nothing from second base. And now Molina is hurt.

Like Bernie said yesterday, age has just caught up to them. The Berkman injury is the one that's had the most effect because Craig and Carpenter would've spelled Beltran and Berkman more. Furcal's downfall has been mitigated by Jon Jay, who wasn't elevated to leadoff soon enough.

BTW, Jay is taking some outstanding at-bats. Even when he makes an out he's up there battling.

Re: 8/31 Gamecrap

Beltran needs to sit more.  Maybe two or three games in a row.  He should have been sitting more all year.  I dont want to hear that they couldnt find anyone to play out there.  Carpenter hasnt been used as much as he should have been the last month or so.  Skip has hit well all year and could have played out there more.  They carried an extra player they didnt need all year(Greene).  There is really no excuse for the over use of a players who has been struggling like both Furcal and Beltran.  Could that abuse be the cause of Bletran slump and Furcal's injury?  Hard to say but Matheny didnt help.  Cant really play the what would TLR do card but he was pretty good at not beating players into the ground as long as there names were not Pujols or Molina.
