Beckett may be slower than Molina , as he gets throw out easily at first base , from Beltran..

Re: 9/13 GC @ LA

As Tk mentioned, if they manage to survive this weekend, they can tell themselves that the next 9 games set up well for a little run.  It's inconceivable that they let Milwaukee and Philadepelphia slip back into this, but if the Cardinals simply take care of business against the Cubs and Houston, they should still be in pretty good shape going into the final week.

Of course, the way they've played recently, taking care of the Cubs and AAAAstros may not be as easy as it should be.

Last night was a good start.  How did Lynn look?

After the first inning, he was nails. After Gonzo's RBI double, the Dodgers didn't get a runner to second base until Hanley's double off Motte with two outs in the ninth.

"11  lob"

The entire team, or just Descalso?

As far as pitching goes the box score looked like a perfect example of how it is supposed to work.  6 solid innings from the starter and then the 3 best bullpen pitchers nail down the 7th, 8th and 9th.

Lynn's sinker was nasty. He was starting it on the inside corner and it darted down and in the last few feet. And he was also humping up his fastball to 94-95. He made Ramirez look silly in his first two at bats with roughly the same sinker/sinker/fastball-on-the-outside-corner sequence.
I've decided the determining factor for Lynn is swings and misses. When he gets 'em, he's good. When guys are fouling off his best pitches, he's not. I suppose you can say that about any pitcher, but there seems to be a wider chasm than normal between the Good Lynn and the Bad Lynn.

Re: 9/13 GC @ LA

Getting Lynn back to be an decent pitcher could be huge.  I kind of hate to see Kelly pushed out of the rotation at some point.  The best thing might be for Westbrook to not rush back.  The injury he has cant be easy for a pitcher and judging by his preformance it is somehting he has been dealing with for awhile.

Re: 9/13 GC @ LA

Carpenter is coming back next week, so one of Kelly, Garcia or Lynn will go back to the bullpen. Garcia is probably safe. So it will come down to Lynn or Kelly taking the ball until Westbrook returns. If Lynn repeats last night, he's probably the guy.

IF the Cardinals can hang on to the second wild card, who is the starter in the play-in game? Lohse? Wainwright? Carpenter?

Re: 9/13 GC @ LA

Wainwright might need a break right now.  He is the guy I would want starting but not like he has been throwing.  Without him at full speed the rotation is completely different.

I am not looking at Carp coming back as a great thing.  He cant be sharp and the Cardinals cant afford to let him use the last month of the season as his spring training.  IMO, he needs to throw out of the pen in a couple of low leverage situations and then maybe move into a bigger role.  To put him in the rotation from the get-go is wreckless.  The Cardinals cant even afford to be turning the game over to the bullpen after 5 innings.  What would it hurt to throw him out of the pen once or twice?
