I'm pumped for this one. And normally I hate these Friday afternoon games, but because I'm going to be at high school football tonight it works out.

Me to on the being excited. I dont really agree that his first appearance of the year after whatever he had done should be a start. That is even more true at this point in the season. But hey, It is Chris Carpenter. He has never been accused of not having guts. If he is half the pitcher he can be it would be huge for the Cardinals and I am sure that is why they are rolling the dice. IDK the likelyhood of him gaining full form in two starts but if he gets close the Cardinals become the NL favorite IMO. You know if they get past the one game playoff. The Nationals have great pitching but they dont have gamers like Wainwright and Carpenter. Follow that up with Loshe who is having a great walk year. Then throw Kelly and Lynn in the bullpen and damn the Cardinals just might have a chance.
There is along way to go till then but I am sure this is what the FO is thinking. I dont know how fair it is to ask it of Carp. He would have been throwing games left handed if they let him.

Me three. If he can even put in four solid innings it'll be a positive. If he makes it into the sixth and the team gets a win it'll be a great day.

Unfair! Two Carpenters in the lineup will boggle the minds of the Wrigley drunks.

Mozeliak is tempering expectations.

Jon Jay should get a lot of kudos there . Ideal lead off at bat ...

He should be. It is ever unreasonable to expect him to be in anything but spring training form.
Wainwright he quoted as expecting the old Carp.
Fastball is sitting 89-90. He hit 91 once. Pretty much going cutter/curve it looks like. Hard to tell if his control is good or if the Cubs are bad. Either way he doesnt look overmatched. We will see how much gas he has as the game wears on. First inning makes me feel hopefull.

DeJesus hit it hard, but that Barney hit was a squeaker. He was lucky to even get contact on it.

OK, Soriano smoked that one. Missed location badly.

Getting roughed up a bit this inning ...

Squeeze went bad and Cubs gave us one ...

Sixty pitches through four. The fifth inning needs to be his last regardless of what happens.

No one could have saw THAT coming. Nice job, Petey.

5 innings, 2 runs allowed and the lead. A more than acceptable performance and that should be the end of Chris Carpenter's day.

Cleared 5 , that should be it ....

Descalso is playing for his glove , he has vanished at the plate ...

Agreed a very good outing all things considered.

Can someone who's watching fill me in on the details of Pete Kozma stealing home. Was it a straight steal?

Kozma tripled on a misplay by the right fielder. Then Matheny called a squeeze with Delscalso at the plate and 1 out(i think). The pitch was high and Delscalso missed it. The ball glanced off the catchers glove and Kozma who broke kinda late for a squeeze scored easy.

They're going to find a way to lose this.

Thanks. That's sort of exactly the scenario I was picturing, but couldn't describe.
These last 9 outs will be scary. Mujica has pitched the last 2 days and wasn't that good yesterday. Motte and Boggs have both pitched the last 3 days. This thing is a long way from being over.

I am not sure what I would do here if I was Matheny.
