Cards have only themselves to blame. This is a shitty Cubs pitching staff and four runs is not going to always fucking cut it.

Re: 9/21 Gamecrap - The Return of Chris Carpenter

An inside change-up is probably the olny pitch that Barney could have hit out.  The Cardinals are not ready for extra innings today.  I think Matheny has Kelly and Scrabble left in the pen.

Gotcha.

Darwin Barney?  Seriously?

They had some really good at bats todayand some really hard hit balls but those are not runs.

I thought they were rather poor. Volstad was asking to be creamed all day.

Bunting with fucking Beltran in the first doesn't help.

If the Cubs win it would be their 4th walk-off against STL this season.

I get what you're saying Tk, but with a 2-run lead, 2 outs in the 9th and no one on base, the majority of the blame rests with the pitcher.  4 runs won't always cut it.  It should have today.

Four walk-off losses to a team that will lose 100 games. That's pretty amazing.

Carp should have kept that rib to shove up Salas' ass.

Re: 9/21 Gamecrap - The Return of Chris Carpenter

And a bad day gets worse. The Brewers come off the deck to beat the Nashnils, and the Dodgers take out TTTIB in extras.
Wonder if Dusty is giving orders from the hospital to lose these games on purpose to keep the Cardinals out of the playoffs?

Can someone who's watching fill me in on the details of Pete Kozma stealing home.  Was it a straight steal?

Kozma tripled on a misplay by the right fielder.  Then Matheny called a squeeze with Delscalso at the plate and 1 out(i think).  The pitch was high and Delscalso missed it.  The ball glanced off the catchers glove and Kozma who broke kinda late  for a squeeze scored easy.

You should have told him it was a Brummer-esque straight steal, just to mess with him.

"Bunting with fucking Beltran in the first doesn't help."

I nearly put my fist through the radio when I heard that. Volstad should have been in the shower by the third inning. The Cardinals played this one like a boxer who keeps an opponent on his feet so he can knock him out later, and then gets knocked out himself.

Or Matheny's. Motte was unavailable because he had pitched three days in a row. Certainly, he doesn't have to use his closer to nail down a 5-0 win over a minor league team.

Re: 9/21 Gamecrap - The Return of Chris Carpenter

True enough. Not much of a Matheny fan either right now.

What Bernie said. http://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/bernie-miklasz/bernie-bits-worst-loss-of-the-season-for-cards/article_ca89b135-8b71-570a-8af7-2db3d292dd22.html

Be sure to read down to where he brings up Earl Weaver to rail against the excessive bunting.

I am not going all "trade Molina" "he sucks" like in the past...lol  But who calls a 0-2 changeup to Barney?  Why would you do that?  The count was 0-2.  An throwing it inside was even worst.  I know you dont want to waste pitches and get the hitter back in the count with a runner on but it was freaking 0-2.

At least they didnt lose it today despite trying very hard to do just that.
