It's just one man's opinion, but Chad thinks Roaenthal will be better than Miller. Until we see Rosenthal in a starting role, it's too early for me to guess, but for the first time in a long time the Cardinals seem well stocked with pitching.
Anyone else feel like tonight was a must-win? Garcia on the road against Houston's only competent pitcher makes me think they're playing the rubber game on Wednesday.
More important, they push their lead for that last spot to 3 1/2 games. If they only go 4-4 in the last 8, Milwaukee and/or LA has to win 9 straight to cath them.

Rosenthal doesn't really have a secondary pitch right now, so I question that.
Big win tonight. Need another sweep of the Stros.

"for the first time in a long time the Cardinals seem well stocked with pitching."
They've got a rotation already set for next year that will be the deepest in the division, and that's not even factoring in Miller and Rosenthal.
The only variables in the every day lineup are whether Furcal is healthy, second base, and how to get Matt Carpenter more at bats.
The bullpen needs some left-handed help, but otherwise Moz could pretty much spend the winter on an Aruban beach.

My wish is that they could somehow use Freese to trade for a second baseman and just make MCarp the third baseman. I don't think that's feasible, though.

Why trade Freese? He has looked solid. I am not really high on him having a long major league career but I think he will give the cardinals another good year or two at very little cost. I like Carpenter but I dont see him as an everyday player. He has done well bouning around the field and lineup. I would stick with that.

"Why trade Freese?"
His value will never be higher. He's had a decent year offensively, and he's still got the 2011 World Series afterglow about him.
Objectively, there are still concerns about his durability, and despite what the FSMW announcers keep telling us, he's a below average defensive third baseman. Those two components aren't going to get better with age.

Well, he's going to be 30 next season, and as Artie points out, he's still got durability issues. I think he's peaked in terms of power. He's basically repeating his 2011 season but with 30 additional points to his slugging average. And my own unscientific, untrained eye thinks he never repeats 20 home runs again.
Carpenter, to me, just takes better at-bats, and would be the better option going forward.
