The FSH gun had his last pitch at 98. He's been consistently hitting 94-95 during his starts, so I wouldn't surprise me if he tickled 98-99 when he's airing it out for one inning.

The FSMW had the last pitch at 99.

Enberg is talking about his sandlot baseball career right now. "If you hit it over the telephone wire, it was a home run; under the wire, it was a double ..."
Fascinating television.

Re: 9/25 GC Cards @ AAAAstros

If the Cardinals can just manage to go 3-4 over these next seven games, the Brewers would have to go undefeated the rest of the way TO TIE.

Good. Apparently it's a southern thing.

If you say so. But if I stepped in a pile of horse manure, I wouldn't be thinking how lucky I am.

Chickenshit luck is bad

Sideshow pitched out of trouble in the 6th. I'm guessing he's not much longer for the game.

Dodgers lose.

4.5 up with 7 to play on both teams.

Rookie mistake by Matheny. You don't turn a guy loose on 3-0 when he's not proven at any point that he can find the plate.

I like this TLR rule.  Never swing on 3-0, ever.  The exceptions would be Holliday and Molina.

I think if ever the situations comes up again that Motte and Boggs are unavaliable Kelly should get 9th inning duties.

Winning again today is important.  The less they have to win against the Nationals and Reds the better.  The bullpen is getting gassed and could use a breather.

I keep reading stuff about how the Cardinals should send the Astros thanks. Umm, huh? Do people not understand how schedules work? This isn't college football; you don't get to pick and choose your opponents.

I'd try him in right field. I don't know if he's ever played right field, but if they put him there, he'll give an honest effort at least.

Is it a jinx to just start talking about next Friday's game against Atlanta?

Not unless you're the starting pitcher.

Yeah, but the Cardinals are sure going to miss the Astros when theyr're gone. *sniff*

In that case, hopefully Medlen has been talking about the game for awhile.

BTW, Medlen is pitching like Chris Carpenter in 2005. Their K/BB and HR/9 are remarkably similar, as are their ground ball numbers. So the Cardinals are up against a Cy Young caliber pitcher who is fresh as a daisy.

Winning and losing today counts the same as winning and losing in April.  The Astros have sucked all year.

I really dont know what Cardinals pitcher gives them the best chance.  Wainwright and Carp have the name but havent been pitching any better then the others.  I really with this game was in St. Louis.

Re: 9/25 GC Cards @ AAAAstros

Wainwright has been pretty iffy since that shutout of the Astros back on August 21. Since that game he has an ERA of 5.85 and hitters have a .305/.375/.453 line against him. He's giving up a lot of line drives. I just don't think he can be counted on in a game like that. Lohse is probably the best option. I thought Lynn was cooked, but I trust him over Wainwright.

Maybe Fredi Gonzalez will do something stupid like go all out to try to catch the Nashnils for the division, or start Hudson because he's got playoff experience.

The smart play is to go with Lohse. You know what you're going to get. He's going to allow two runs in six innings. You hope you somehow get three runs off Medlin and then turn it over to Mujica, Boggs and Motte.
There's a play to go with Carpenter or Wainwright and hope their iron testicles re-appear for one night, but it's riskier.

Re: 9/25 GC Cards @ AAAAstros

Loshe is a pretty cool cat.  I think I am on board with rolling him out there.  He has had a really nice year so Matheny can say he is just going with the 2012 staff ace.  It is his walk year and that has seemed to focus him.  Nothing makes a pitcher more money then playoff wins.  Plus then IF the Cardinals win Matheny could go with whoever he wanted at home.
