9/26 Gamecrap

It's a good thing Carpenter is getting his reps in against lousy teams.

Looks like Norris has returned to being unhittable.

Re: 9/26 Gamecrap

How did Angel Hernandez avoid getting picked to be an NFL replacement official?

Re: 9/26 Gamecrap

Well, that's classy. Kozma makes an error and the "Loony Tunes" theme comes over the P.A. ... in a ballpark where the home team has a 50-105 record and is 43 1/2 games out of first place.

Re: 9/26 Gamecrap

I don't know if you guys are getting this on FSMW, but this is the last game for Milo Hamilton before he retires. Presumably, his ego will be leaving with him.

They showed something between innings. Good riddance.

Re: 9/26 Gamecrap

Maybe tonight is a trade-off for a win next Friday. Maybe this entire season is going to be a trade-off for another World Series, kind of like 2006.

How did he look tonight?  Think he can be trusted to start in the playoffs if they should make it?

Better than he did Friday. Threw a lot of strikes, still not enough grounders, but he could hold his own against every MLB lineup.

The last couple of weeks Beltran has been hitting for average but if the team is going to do something in the playoffs he is going to have to get his power swing back.  Craig has been a rock in this lineup but the out come of this season depends on what Holliday and Beltran can do.

Still kind of rusty. Which is what you'd expect. His fastball was up to 92, which is a mph or two faster than he was on Friday. I can only remember him throwing his curve once, but he had to throw it more than that.
His best pitch was the 2-seamer that starts inside on a lefty and breaks back toward the plate. He threw two in a row to Moore that fooled Angel Hernandez, and instead of striking out, Moore doubled, the inning was extended and the Astros scored their second run.
Answering your second question, it's still too soon to tell. His control isn't pinpoint, which is certainly understandable, so he's probably gotten away with some pitches against the Astros and the Cubs that he might not get away with against a playoff caliber team.
His next turn in the rotation would be Tuesday. With today's day off they could move him up to Monday, but that would still leave him pitching on short rest if they want him to go Friday, which probably isn't an option at this point.
