Re: Other series crap

How does Phil Cuzzi merit an assignment behind the plate in a playoff game?

The Reds are saying back spasms, but it looked like she was having menstrual cramps. Apparently, the visitors clubhouse at AT&T doesn't supply Midol. Go figure.

I don't necessarily believe in appearances, but Arroyo looks a lot more confident than Bumgarner does so far.

Re: Other series crap

Have the Yankees ever had a call go against them in the playoffs? Seriously. There was Reggie Jackson sticking out his hip in the '77 WS. That geeky kid who reached out and pulled Jeter's line drive over the fence. Chuck Knoblauch being called safe after Offerman tagged him in 2003. I don't know what Angel Hernandez was thinking. Can Suzuki run around the entire stadium trying to avoid a tag? Then again, I seldom know what Angel Hernandez is thinking. He should be watching the playoffs on TV with Phil Cuzzi.

Thank goodness the Orioles scored. You would have thought Andy Pettitte invented baseball, set the pillars at Stonehenge and dug the Panama Canal by himself the way these yahoos from TBS have been fawning over him.

Re: Other series crap

Nick Swisher is one of my dream Cardinals. We've had Berkman and Beltran (though Beltran annoys me), but damn if I wouldn't do backflips to get a guy like that on the roster.

Re: Other series crap

Are TBS and Fox executives worried right now that we could end up with a World Series consisting of Detroit, Baltimore, Cincinnati or Washington? Yikes.

Really?  What is that appealing about nick swisher?

At first I thought Tk was being sarcastic, but AP clearly didn't think so, and after reading Tk's post again, I don't think so either.  So I'll ask the same question.

Not that Swisher is a bad player, but I don't know that I've seen anything that would cause me to do backflips.  And I saw last night that he's now something like 1 for 33 with RISP in the post-season.  Yuck.

Re: Other series crap

He's essentially Lance Berkman with a little less power. I just enjoy watching players like that swing the bat. Very disciplined, measured approach.

Re: Other series crap

That's kind of an insult to Berkman.  Less power, less average, lower OBP, more strikeouts.

I know that with many people OBP is the rage, and I'm not saying it's a statistic that should be discounted, but a hit is always better than a walk.  You can't go from first to third on a walk, nor can you score from second.

Same with strikeouts.  Granted, a strikeout is better than a double play, but there is such a thing as a productive out, and nothing good comes from not making contact.  At a bare minimum, when you make contact you give the other team the chance to make an error.

Re: Other series crap

I am not sure who would be on my ultimate wish list for the Cardinals.  Posey is pretty good but the Cardinals have a better second baseman.  I like the way Harper play, even tho it is over hyped, but dont think he is an eilite player.  The face paint thing was dumb.  I am not really a Miggy fan and havent seen much of Trout.  Beltre seems like a player that will decline soon.  I guess I would go with McCutchen or Hamilton.

They're rooting for Yankees/Giants, but they'll take Yankees/anyone. Cincinnati/Oakland is probably the matchup they'd dread most of all. Two teams with very little appeal beyond their markets and no players who resonate on a national scale.
FWIW, I don't think anyone in a suit is going to be pulling for the Cardinals. If I recall, last year's WS had the lowest ratings ever.

Re: Other series crap

I would think Yankees/Nationals would have draw.  Tigers/Cardinals or Yankees/Cardinals would be pretty cool as far as history goes.

Re: Other series crap

Heh, not smart, Brandon Phillips.

Someone may have already made this observation, but it's really eerie how close the 2012 Reds are to the 1990 Reds. That Reds team had one great starter (Jose Rijo) surrounded by above average starters that was bolstered by an incredibly good bullpen. They had a very average offense (2012 Reds: 4.13 RPG/4.22 LeagueAVG // 1990 Reds: 4.28 RPG/4.2 LeagueAVG).

The pitching staff also tied for allowing the fewest runs in the league. Who was that team they tied with? The Expos!
