Seems like Romo threw 200 pitches ....

Speaking of large cajones, how about Mr. Verlander?

Yep. I hope we get, but don't need, similar studliness from Waino today.

The eternal pessimist in me says Waino is going to need every milligram of testosterone in his package today. The Game 1 outing from Gonzalez was a gift, and the Cardinals didn't take it. I doubt Gio stinks two starts in a row.

Fister kind of reminds me of Jeff Weaver ... without the cloud of smoke hovering around him.

The Yankees have an eight zillion dollar payroll, and the guy they signed for $1 million is keeping them alive.

ARod is a douche

I was curious if anyone else saw that... lol
Sorry Joe, 27.5 million a season doesn't buy my undivided attention. (Rip from the Mayhem commercial here if you don't catch it).

How terrified is Leyland of his bullpen? Verlander is on fumes here.

There's no way I bring Potato Head into this game.

Six years later, the Tigers might have finally won a best-of-seven in three. The Yankees have scored in two out of 30 innings in this series.
And I'd like a re-do on my AL Cy Young pick from a couple weeks ago. Verlander is The Mang.

I remember 6 years ago having a discussion with some people at work about how Detroit looked poised to make multiple World Series with the pitching they had. Verlander is the only holdover, but whoever comes out of the NL is going to have its hands full. About the only shot is to get to Valverde and I'm not sure Leyland is going to let that happen.

Obviously, Verlander is tough at the top, but after that it can be kind of a mixed bag for them. Fister looks like he's the goods (WTF were the Mariners thinking?), but Scherzer and Sanchez can run hot and cold. Their performance hasn't matched the potential. You can say Scherzer is still young enough to become a dominant pitcher, but Sanchez has been erratic for awhile now. Porcello is a decent fifth starter, but you'd have to think the Tigers were expecting a #2 or #3 when they drafted him.
And their bullpen has become a mess. Valverde can't get anyone out, Benoit blew a lead in the Oakland series, and Coke didn't exactly come in and blow the Yankees away tonight. Their best bullpen pitcher right now is a guy named after Windy's hometown. And really, how good can anything called "Albuquerque" be?

I followed Scherzer more closely than normal because we had him on our fantasy team. He was nails after June. But he had a shoulder or dead arm issue at the end of the season that caused him to miss a start.
I haven't seen Fister throw, but a rested rotation of Verlander, Fister, Scherzer would be really, really tough.
Agree their bullpen is their weak link.

Anyone else get the feeling that the Yankees will be happy when their postseason is over?

I dont follow that AL much. Block everything or change the channel. What is up with ARod. Why are they benching him and talking about trading him? He is a shell of the player he is getting paid to be but still.
I am rooting for a 2006 rematch.

Madonna's Soulmate got benched because he wasn't hitting, and now there are rumors he's heading to Miami for Heath Bell. The Yankees would pick up a substaintial portion of ARod's remaining contract.

None of the Yankees hit. That is why they lost.

A-rod's contract is a lightning rod and it got seriously magnified when he got popped for steroids. His numbers since he got caught have seriously declined and he's physically breaking down, all signs of someone who juiced for a while and has since stopped.
Throw in the fact that he plays in New York and the does stupid shit like hit on models during a game, and he isn't exactly endearing himself to the fans.
It also doesn't help that he's gone 3 years without hitting .200 in a playoff series.

I would have dismissed the trade rumors if the Marlins hadn't been mentioned as the team involved. Loria won't care about any of that stuff. He'd probably put the models in the dugout if ARod asked him to.
