Re: Jay not in contention for Gold Glove

Meh, this isn't surprising. It's not really a knock on Jay so much as it shows how good his rivals are.

I'm not sure why Andre Ethier is on that list of right fielders, though. That can't be serious.

Re: Jay not in contention for Gold Glove

Of course I saw the most of Jay but I thought he was the best.  He really tracks balls well.

Re: Jay not in contention for Gold Glove

Buehrle, Molina and Bruce are slam dunks.
Freeman should win at first base.
I have no opinion on any of the others, except I'd like to see Barney win ahead of Phillips.

Re: Jay not in contention for Gold Glove

Thirdbase should be a slam dunk for Wright I would think.  If you asked me to name the two best center fielders in the NL I would have listed Jay and McCutchen.  With Jay not being on the list I asssume McCutchen is a sure thing.

I wonder how long it's been since the Cards had only one name on that list?

Remember that Bourn is lightning quick so any bad jumps he gets are made up for with his ridiculous speed. Jay tracks balls really well, but he can get himself in trouble by taking some odd routes to it. Sometimes it looks like he's running post patterns.

Re: Jay not in contention for Gold Glove

I confess to not knowing enough about the American League, but I was surprised Trout didn't win. It seemed like every time I watched BBTN, there was a clip of him making a good defensive play.
Bruce got jobbed. Phillips probably did too. It's odd that TTTIB was maybe the best defensive team in the NL, and they didn't have a single GG winner.

Yadi is on an island defensively. I know we were bitching last season about him being a little casual blocking balls in the dirt, but he was phenomenal this season in every aspect of his defense.
And no one bothers to run on him anymore. I think it was TK who posted a couple of weeks ago that more people successfully stole off Posey than attempted to steal off Molina this season. And Posey plays a couple of games every week at first base.

Re: Jay not in contention for Gold Glove

Aye. Molina busted ass this year and it's probably no surprise that it came after Albert's departure. The way he has transformed himself is nothing short of extraordinary and the effort he exuded this year was on display for everyone to see. I probably watched 160 games including playoffs and I don't recall thinking "quit stabbing at balls" too many times, if at all, this season.

Ive been harder on Molina then anyone.  Ive suggested they trade him.  I spoke against signing him.  He was worth every penny this year.  He was great.  I wonder if Pujols was holding Yadi back.

Re: Jay not in contention for Gold Glove

Not sure if this was posted elsewhere, but just read that Molina won his second Platinum Glove for being named the best defensive player in the league at any position.
