Canned bread can survive a nuclear holocaust.

Sandy has given us a lot of wind but not a lot of rain so far. It really wasn't even that windy until about an hour ago. My stupid f___ing neighbors didn't take in their Halloween decorations, which are now blowing around the neighborhood.

Re: ARMAGEDDON!!!!

Starting to get nasty here. A 50-foot tree across the street just came down on a neighbor's house. Neighbors I like, not the annoying neighbors who left their Halloween decorations out.

The downed tree took out our internet and cable TV lines, but the power was restored in a jiffy. The benefits of having a municipal electricity system.
Where I am was spared most of the storm. Not much rain, but a lot of wind. I have no leaves left on my trees. I'm going to try to rake them into Cub Fan's yard before he gets home.

I had forgotten the tale of poor Raggot.

What did the brown gerbil say to the white gerbil?
You must be new here.

Re: ARMAGEDDON!!!!

Man... maybe I'm missing something with these hurricanes....

I know it's gonna make me sound like a callous dick (and lets face it, I AM a callous dick) but don't people get like a week notice on these superstorms? It wasn't like Joplin where there's a storm and then holy shit here's a massive tornado! Fuck yo town!!!!

I am kinda amazed that people die in hurricanes that come with a 7 day notice... Does that make me a dick? Well... again I am a dick, but does that make me more of a dick?

You're not missing anything.

"I am kinda amazed that people die in hurricanes that come with a 7 day notice"

You're giving people too much credit for intelligence. This is a sample from the police log in my local paper from Monday. These people were warned there was a storm coming. And we got only a glancing blow from a category 1 hurricane. I can't imagine what the people in New Jersey went through, or even worse what the people in Gulf Coastwent through with Katrina, which I think was a cat 3 or cat 4 when it made landfall.

1:08 p.m. Officers moved people off rocks and back from seawall on Surf Street. Yellow tape was put up to keep people back. They had to speak to the same people a few minutes later.

3:08 p.m. Police received several calls about a windsurfer in trouble on Marblehead Harbor. He was able to move along out of the water and was checked out.

6:01 p.m. Caller reported boat in distress trying to head towards the mouth of Salem Harbor. Salem harbormaster notified. Marblehead harbormaster reported having spoken to the man at length and having advised him not to go out, but man went anyway. Marblehead harbormaster planned to speak to man upon his return to Village Street.

Appreciate your concern for my safety, but for the record I was NOT the guy who was trying to make it out of the harbor in a dinghy during the height of the storm.

Re: ARMAGEDDON!!!!

Tree on the house?  Sorry to hear about that.  Does that mean a ruined house?  Hopefully the people are OK.

They got really lucky, Max. The only damage was to the siding, where the wires that were pulled down were attached.
These are the neighbors who live in their condo in Boston during the week, and come to their "cottage" in Marblehead during weekends.

They're not around enough to be bothersome, and when they are around they're quiet.
It's the twits next to them I can't stand. Three kids between ages 9 and 5, usually unsupervised, each one more annoying than the last. For some reason, my wife let them use the basketball hoop in front of our house. I'm in the living room reading one day, and I hear: swish ... thud ... swish ... thud ... swish ... thud. The middle kid is shooting hoops with my wife's car parked about five feet away and the ball is bouncing off the hood. I grab her keys, run outside to move the car. "Hold on, Liam, let me move Sheryl's car ..." I get in the car to move it and the kid shoots the ball again ... swish ... thud.
I felt like running the kid over.

I don't mind kids, but I don't like kids who inundate themselves on the entire neighborhood because their parents are never home and the nanny is usually too engrossed in the cell phone conversation she seems to always be having. The dad is actually OK. At least he tries. The mom is just hapless.

Re: ARMAGEDDON!!!!

I like my neighbors for the most part.  One is an old lady that is friendly.  Another is a very old lady that likes to watch me pee and has a sour attitude.  There is a married couple in there mid 60s that let me borrow all there stuff.  The olny ones I dislike is the ones that have a kid in his low 20s but they should move out in a handfull of years.  They are just renting untill the owners get back from the military.  Still I wish I lived far away from anyone.  I grew up without neighbors and I like that best.

Re: ARMAGEDDON!!!!

Worst neighbor story I have. I was hanging at a buddies house when the neighbors (hubby/wifey) came over dancing for joy because the wife was pregnant, and it was a miracle because hubby had a vascectomy, and was sterile.

I still remember the constipated look on my friends face, and knew mine was a mirror of red-face restraint trying not to say any of the 40,000 questions that immediately hit my mind.. "Shouldn't say anything, must speak, shouldn't open mouth, can't help it, has to be said, no don't say it."

We maintained silence somehow, and he moved before we ever heard the end of the story. Was it the 99.999% wife cheated possibility? Or was that guy one of the miracle shooters that had a pipe somehow reconnect, or a 3rd pipe (bit of a mutation, but possible, and often missed. Odds are still well worse than 1/10000).

As far as non-violent horrible stories about neighbors, that was up there.
