There's a reason Eckstein is cheaper than Hudson. His numbers have been pretty bad since leaving St. Louis. I know people love nostalgia, but I want to see Eckstein at 2nd base about as much as I want to see Matt Morris return to the rotation.
I don't think Eckstein has many fans who think more of him than I do, allowing for my usual restraint. But I have to agree with Fors. He'd make a great bench coach or even a hitting coach and I'd love to see him in the Cardinal dugout someday in some such position. [He'd make an even better third base coach. Go Mets!!!]
But I really think Hudson is exactly what the team needs.

Hard to argue with any of it. I think I would have thrown a 10th place vote at Arthur Rhodes to recognize how vital he was to a playoff team, but it's a good ballot.

I thought for some reason a trade for Drew was doable. Now I see that we really have a slim chance of that. Hudson would be our best bet. I dont know what his value is but I wouldnt think it would cost much in terms of years.

I agree AP. The freely available information is that the AZ GM is getting lots of interest in Drew, but that he wouldn't part with him without getting great value. So we shouldn't expect anyone else to pull a Marlins and let an All-Star silver slugger get away for the price of a lefty bullpen pitcher and a journeyman infielder.
