Re: Off-season GC

I cant believe that about Lehair.  Kind of suprising, I know he isnt as good as he was against the Cardinals but it is hard to believe he didnt have a place on any teams 25 man roster.  He really fell off a cliff after the All Star break as well.  He is the perfect example why more established players should get the nod in All Star selection.  Who wants to see a bunch of half year wonder play?  After reading the story it seems that LeHair might just be using his head to cash in a 2 year 4.5 million contract.  Given the type of player he is I am sure he could have stuck around in the league as a league minimum player.  It would have taken him a handfull of years to make 4.5million.  By then he surely would have been out of the league.

Re: Off-season GC

"Yankees re-sign Kuroda, 1 year/$15M"

I found this suprisingly low in years.  ESPN said he isnt in love with America or pitching.

Re: Off-season GC

Kuroda pitched on a 1 year deal last year also. I just assumed it was because of his age.

Re: Off-season GC

I didnt know he was 37 years old.  Japanese players seem to age slower.

Re: Off-season GC

Gomes reportedly signing with Boston. 2 years, $10M. Apparently the cost of bench help has become quite expensive.

Another reason to loathe the Red Sox.

Re: Off-season GC

Christ Almighty...$5 million for Gomes? Ugh. I was thinking it would be $2 million tops. Oh well.

He'll also provide humorous musical entertainment for the guys on the chicken-and-beer shift.

Indeed, based on that, Schumaker must be worth a fortune.  Let's trade him now for a top tier LOOGY.

Remember the discussion we had about some teams being able to better to dish out and absorb bad contracts?

Re: Off-season GC

Around the league:

- Carolos Ruiz suspended 25 games after testing positive for amphetamines.

- David Wright and the Mets rumored to be nearing a 7/$120M contract.

- Ken Rosenthal reporting the Dodgers may offer Greinke 6/$150M

- Madson signs a 1 year deal with the Angels.

Re: Off-season GC

I'm glad the Mets are keeping Wright. One more core player the Cubs can't have.

So Madson ended up with $8.5 million of Castellano's money despite never throwing a pitch for the Reds? That makes me laugh. And then it makes me cry when I figure out it's more than I'll earn in a lifetime. Where do I sign up for Tommy John surgery?

Deal complted.  Reportedly a 7 year/$122M extension.  The Cubs Dynasty will have to wait.

Re: Off-season GC

I like all three of these deals.  Upton strikes out alot but 5 years doesnt handcuff them.  The Mets got a fair deal.  It might even be a bit of a steal.  Wright is getting Holliday money.  He is well worth it.  He hits as good as Holliday and plays one of the most important positions on the field.

Also Martin is one of the best catcher in the league.

The natives are starting to get restless. They're crushing on Lonnie Chisenhall.
