So AP takes us to task for posting about college FOOTBALL in a thread titled FOOTBALL, but suddenly it's OK to talk about running suicides and eating shit.

Both of you 10 suicides each for breaking message board rules.

Jesus H. Christ, can we get back to Pujols contract already!?!

Where is the Mulder trade thread?

I wasnt to shabby.  I was tall.  Then people caught up with me.  I just didnt get into the jockness of all of it.  I couldnt make a 2 month hobby a year around obsession.

So you were one of those guys who was shaving in the seventh grade? Every school has one. Ours was a kid named Timmy Smith. He was 6-2 in the eighth grade and averaged 25 ppg. He was still 6-2 in the 11th grade and was end of the bench material, and then he didn't even bother to come out for hoops his senior year.

Ours was Lien Jobst.  Lien was Vietnamese adoption, several years older than all of us.  He was 5-2 in sixth grade and towered over us all, and still 5-2 in 11th grade.  How the mighty fall.  But he was a good guy and took the transition well.  My recollection is that he had been shot as a young kid during the war, and he would show the bullet wound to close friends.

I heard we can talk college football in here? Sorry for making the duplicate thread in the college sports thread, I had no idea it would be here!

So who's winning the national championship game? Notre Dame or Alabama?

/hides from AP

Rec
And it better be Alabama. The alternative would be worse than that Mayan apocolypse.

It's Notre Dame, right?  I choose Notre Dame--northern, Catholic, and Irish--any day over those confederate flag waving, fundamentalist Baptists, white supremacists who field a team of 22 black guys working for free ANY DAY.

Now, I know my southern math skills, and know that one Johnny Reb can whip three northerners, so I suppose it would take Notre Dame and two of her friends (Ohio State and  . . . ?) to have a fighting chance.  But I believe in a just God, one that gives a lubricated rat's ass whether anything from Alabama--other than the boll weevil, and a Mobile hooker--comes out on top.

I didn't play basketball in high school. I played pickup games with most of the guys on the team, but our high school coach wanted a track team. I was way too slow, way too white and hated running. That was 3 strikes.

Our teams were always good up until Sectionals. Then we always ran into an inner-city school that was equally fast, but taller.

I've probably told the story a million times, but before he was "Doc", Glenn Rivers played in our high school league, and I watched him at home and at Proviso East.  I think it was called the West Suburban Conference.  Our school was among the furthest "west", and Proviso East was among those nearest to Chicago.

I don't think I knew that. The Chicago area of course has produced a lot of professional basketball players, but Ewing was really something akin to Halley's Comet coming out of Boston. Not a lot of D1 schools are looking for pimply 5-6 guards named Sean, Shawn or Shaun. Ewing's press conference on letter of intent day was high comedy, partly because no one really knew how to stage one here. Ewing barely spoke English at the time because he had come from Jamaica, so when he stepped up to the mic and announced "I going to the George's Town," half the Georgetown alumni must have dropped their chins onto their chests.

Just wait until Darci Barton becomes a perennial .300/25/80 guy.  Then we'll really regret that trade.
