Adam Ottavino
Nick Stavinoha
Daryl Jones
Steven Hill
Could all be picked up by a team using a rule 5 draft pick. I would think aqll 4 of those guys would be looked at by other clubs. Maybe not so much on Jones.
The Cardinals have added Blake King and Tony Cruz to the 40 man roster.

Ottavino's shoulder is still an issue. I don't think he had any work done on it, I think he took a chance that rest would resolve the problem.
Jones was supposed to be the next great position player from the system. Had all the tools. Unfortunately, none of those were baseball tools. Another fabrege egg that cracked.

Ehh. He had that terrific 2008 season, but I've read some stuff indicating a poor work ethic.

It's sad. He could have accumulated about 65 hours college credit at Rice by this time and might even be a wide-receiver for somebody in the NFL.

Never mind. I guess he didn't make a mistake passing on football.

I think Hill is the most surprising. He has had two 20 HR seasons. From a catcher that could have real value. Maybe not on a Cardinal team that likes a more glove motivated catcher but he would certainly be a trade chip.

I can only follow the minor league teams by the numbers, but I've never understood why Hill wasn't considered more of a prospect. The kid can obviously hit. Even if he's a lousy catcher, they could have tried him at another position.

He seems ahead of Pagz and Anderson. They even promoted him for a short time this year from double A to the majors.

I recall there were some unusual circumstances. LaRue was unavailable because an ugly girl dressed as a baseball player kicked him in the head, and Memphis was somewhere on the west coast and they couldn't get anyone else to Cincinnati.

They did take Molina out and put Hill in. I cant remember if Yadi got hurt or what but they must have trusted Hill some to put him in against the Cubs.

Yadi was definitely hurt at the time. I can't recall the exact nature of the injury but the story was quite definite that the only reason Hill got the call was because Pags and Anderson were on the West Coast and I think Hill was in Springfield. In fact, I think he was only there for a game or two until they could get Pagnozzi. It wouldn't have mattered if it had been the 7th game of the World Series. Hill was their only option.
Once again, and my memory really sucks, but I'm pretty sure that even Stavinoha was on the West Coast with Memphis at the time. So they didn't even have their last resort emergency catcher available.

Hill hit a HR in his one game.

I was reading on VEB and there opinion is that Hill isnt even a catcher.
They also believed that JJ Hardy would be a good fit in the utility role. I like that idea.
