Red Soxs ended up doing alright on Napoli. They got it down to 1 year 5 million. That is a steal. He cant be that hurt.

*Nyjer Morgan has signed with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, according to the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). Morgan, a Turner Gary Sports client, will earn $1.6MM to play for the BayStars in Japan's Central League.

Delmon Young got $750,000 from the Phillies. He's going to start, but for $750,000 the Cardinals should have been all over that as a bench bat. That's all he is good for. He can't play center, but he can stand in the box and swing hard against lefties. Oh well they have Ty Wigginton for that.

Great, Scott Hairston gets signed by the Cubs for $6 million. You know, $1 million more than 45-year-old Ty Wigginton who can't play defense and can't hit lefties.
Mozeliak has had a dreadful offseason. His biggest moves were overpaying for a lefty reliever and a utility player who would've been unsigned in February.

I agree TK and say the Cubs signed Hairston. I didnt know the amount. I think Hairston would have been better but I am open to the idea that Wigginton wont completely suck and the combo of him and Carpenter can provide meaningful production at several spots. The trick will be hiding them defensively. Wigginton more then Carp.
Wigginton can play at third or second. He just cant.

Didn't we already drop an atom bomb on Japan? I mean how much can we make those people suffer?

Their baseball seems very traditional. I cant see them enjoying T-Plush's antics.

Oh, he'll be entertainment for about a half-hour, then he'll do something stupid, say something stupider in response to the stupid thing he did and he'll be back here by July.
Someone should have told him there's a league in Somalia and he ought to try out for the Pirates.

IDK, Morgan might be smart in playing baseball in a country that wont be able to understand english.

Maybe he'll do that stupid Monsters Inc. thing with his arms, confuse the Japanese into thinking he's Godzilla attacking Tokyo and be blown up by the Japanese Air Force.

The irony of this whole story is that a guy who elected to publicly taunt Albert Pujols and Chris Carpenter isn't good enough to remain in the major leagues.

Justin Upton to the Braves for Martin Prado, Randall Delgado and 3 other minor leaguers.

Sort of like the Bizarro concept, eh? Wrongis right, down is up, dumb is smart?
I'm guessing English is so common in Japan these days that most Japanese have a better vocabulary than he does.

Does this trade put the Braves two Upt-on the competition?
{Sorry. Two minutes in the penalty box for bad wordplay. I feel shame.}

As of today the Cardinals are worse than the Reds, Braves, Natinals, Giants and depending on health, the Dodgers. I don't see how they make the playoffs, even as a second wild card, as currently constructed.

I am having some serious preseason doubts as well. This team is going to be good enough to compete as long as they stay healthy. Looking up and down the roster I cant help but be worried. Beltran is likely to regress. Molina just came off a career year. It is kind of greedy to expect much more. Furcal isnt going to be much help, IMO. Basicly for this team to win the division Carp and Craig need to be stars.
Offline
Yes. They need the following things to happen:
1. Furcal to OPS about .740 with a .360 or better OBP.
2. Descalso to be an elite defensive player
3. Craig, Holliday, Molina and Freese improving or maintaining production
4. Beltran playing 140 healthy games
5. Carpenter and Garcia pitching 180 healthy innings
6. Jake Westbrook to improve dramatically
7. Production off the bench from Wigginton and Kozma
If all those things happen the Cardinals win 95 games and probably the division. I see only one of those things happening, and it's No. 3. It's why they will win 85 games. This is a deeply flawed roster that will get non-existent production from the middle infield and bench. They can survive not having a healthy Carpenter and Garcia because the reserves are good enough to fall back on, but I look and see about five good to great players surrounded by 20 mediocre to average players, mostly mediocre.
Offline
I disagree on number 2. Descalso isnt going to factor in a positive way. His above average defense at second if offset by second base not being a highly needed defensive position and his .230 average at the plate. Also he isnt a very good SS or 3rd baseman. The best thing that can happen is Carp win the job at second and Descalso being a better version of Kozma. Descalso's glove isnt the problem.
Offline
Yeah I don't think Descalso plays well just that they need it badly to happen.

From what I'm hearing, I'm not sure I would count on Garcia for 80 innings, let alone 180.

Well, they play more games against the Cubs than four of the teams you've mentioned. That's a plus.

That Garcia has become very complacent since signing his extension and is very content cashing his checks regardless of whether he pitches or not. His shoulder is a ticking time bomb.
