Some respect maybe but I like Duncan best. I did like Joe McEwing tho.
Duncan tho, I like his story. Coaches son who was supposively given a free ride. He kind of rose above that and made it to the majors having two productive years before his career ends do to injury. The Cardinals wouldnt have won a WS without him and I dont think you can call him a a non major leaguer. I hit is weight. He couldnt field but it wasnt for lack of effort. He gave it his all. He wasnt the best player in the world but what short term major leaguer was.

"supposively"
you're on fire.
Yes, from that stand point, he was perhaps the most valuable of the Cards flashes in the pan. Bottenfield and . . . who? yielding Edmonds was valuable in a different way.

Had Aaron Miles's Cardinal stint ended after Opening Day 2006 he would have been my favorite flash in the pan.

I'll show my age a bit, but I'll take 1985 Cesar Cedeno. His September production was absurd. Sadly, then the tarp and Don Denkinger happened.

Will Clark had a month to remember in what was it? 2000? 2001? But he was ineligible in the playoffs. And he's Will Clark.

No, he played. He hit .412/.500/.706 against the Mets in the NLCS in 2000.

I stand corrected. That was the series they couldn't do anything against Mike Hampton.

When did they ever hit Mike Hampton? Mike Hampton could come out of retirement three months from now and toss six Norris-esque innings while leaving the seventh with a 3-1 lead.
One day I'm going to come up with a list of pitchers who inexplicably killed the Cardinals. My hunch is that 80 percent all played for the Astros at some point.

Day 99
Nothing on the rumor front, but it's a little more than a week until pitchers and catchers report.

And my hunch is 80 percent of your 80 percent will be salad-tossin' lefties.

That sounds about right.

Day 100. Rumor had it that Lohse signed with Cleveland, but he texted 590 the Fan to say it wasn't true.

Day 101. Still no news, though Boras says he's negotiating with several teams.

I know the cardinals said they were not interested but they should at least "kick the tires" as Mo says.

There was a report over the weekend that Boston was interested in him, but that may have been from a bored sportwriter who got sick of watching the snow pile up.

Cleveland might be interested. They have a protected pick.

Does that mean the Cardinals get a supplemental pick? 2nd round pick?

3rd rounder IIRC.

Looked it up. The Cardinals get a supplemental round pick regardless. Cleveland would forfeit its 2nd round pick. It doesn't go to anyone. If it's a team whose pick isn't protected, the Cardinals still only get a supplemental pick and the signing team loses their 1st round pick (which doesn't go to anyone).
Sort of an interesting side effect--the more of these free agents who sign, the more valuable the supplemental picks. I know Rafael Soriano was one free agent with draft pick compensation who signed. Have there been any others? Is there any other way a team can get supplemental picks? If not, the Cardinals supplemental pick would be in the top 30 picks.
Edit- That may not necessarily be correct. I think the rules provide that if a team fails to sign its first round pick, it gets a replacement pick the following year. Not sure if any team didn't sign it's first rounder last year.

how does it effect teams like the indians who just lost a pick if they sign loshe? do they lose another?
