Re: Off-season GC

"I dont think it would be a big deal that Greene was never a major leager or that Rasmus has daddy issues if they played for another club."

That's the thing AP, the Post doesn't report about it and we don't care when it happens on another team.

I'd also add that the "drama" was likely perpetuated by the disconnect between the front office (who had overhyped many of its prospects) and the manager/staff (who didn't view them in the same light).  My guess is that we'll see less of it with Larussa's regime gone and with the prospects apparently more legitimate.

Re: Off-season GC

And matheny in less of a role to disagree.  Looks like matheny's bank account needs a steady check.

I do think the FO over hyped the prospects.  Everyone of them somehow gave fans the impression that they were the next big thing.  Not sure how.  Like someone pointed out, none of the ones that had issues amounted to much.  In another system I dont think anyone would care that Miller had a 6 pack when he showed up to camp last year.  I think unless the FO promotes it fans olny care about the 25 man roster.

They would if it affected his on-field performance which it did.  By his own admission, Miller came to camp with a "distance runner's body."  It wasn't built for the grind of starting pitching.  He lost strength and velocity as a result which led to his poor start at Memphis.  But Miller realizes he made a mistake and has put on muscle mass to better prepare himself for the upcoming season.

I'd post a link to the story about the bet Miller has with Wainwright as to who can get closer to their target weight before camp.  It details a lot of this info, but for some reason the links I try to post aren't working.  Not sure if anyone else is having this problem or if anyone has a solution.

Not at all. When has this group ever over-analyzed a trade?

To no one's surprise, ARod's initial contention that his PED use was "amateur hour" may not have been entirely truthful:

It wasn't quite meant as sarcasm, but I did have a smirk when I posted. I think the trade itself was OK and would have been quite good if we'd hung onto Dotel, and maybe Jackson, and if Scrabble hadn't been such a disappointment. But I'm pretty sure that if I hadn't known the whole reason for moving Rasmus, I'd have viewed the deal a lot more critically.

All that being said, I get your point and agree that we could do with a little less drama.

I agree with all that.  i just dont think other club care as much about guys in the system like this one does.  IDK, maybe I dont follow them close enough to notice.  I never hear about a cub prospect.  I cant name one.

Interesting that this has links to the University of Miami baseball program.  Hmmmm.  What Milwaukee Brewer outfielder recently tested positive for PEDs and attended the University of Miami?

Wow. AP, not to question your radar, but you must have missed the story when Anthony Rizzo was elected mayor of Chicago the week after he was called up.
CubFan has been over-hyping prospects since Shawon Dunston was supposed to be the second coming of Ernie Banks. They had Mark Prior in the Hall of Fame about 30 seconds after he got drafted. Key-rist, even Felix Pie was supposed to be Willie Mays, with better speed.

Guessing the latter. That would account for the "wider stance" he's adopted.

Well, with Reyes there was "he won't pitch the way we want." That became an ongoing saga for two seasons. With Rasmus it was "his dad is a distraction." That went on for a season and a half. With Tyler Greene there was "he's feuding with management because they keep yanking him around." Garcia was publicly dismissed by his pitching coach. Mitchell Boggs was in Tyler Greene's situation and after he blew a save in Houston he was never given much of a high-leverage role for the entirety of 2011. Miller supposedly came in too skinny.

Yeah, but besides that is there anything.

This neatly ties together two separate threads.  One, regarding Miller's Adonis-like body, and two Cuns prospects.  There have been many pitchers who have athletic bodies and six packs.  I don't recall seeing Maddux in a swim suit, but he looked lean and mean.  But the one that really comes to mind is Kyle Farnsworth, he of the 102 mph fastball.  That dude was ripped, he was overhyped, and he was a Cub, and he had all the speed and power anyone could ask for.

Are you suggesting Greg Maddux took steroids?

hasnt Rizzo played in the majors already?  It seems like I hear about other teams prospects when they are major league ready and as a cardinal fan I here about our way sooner.  Like Rasmus drama of not getting promoted to the Majors after his breakout year in double A.  Again, it might be because I dont follow other teams.

And now it comes out that Ryan Braun's name appears in the records.  Of course, Braun claims he didn't buy any PED's, his counsel simply consulted with the PED dealer on how to beat his previous PED case.

Geez, just think how much he would have gotten if he had ever won a game that meant something.

Re: Off-season GC

I could see the Indians trading Bourn at some point in the not-to-distant future.  They didn't really have a need in centerfield, and I don't think they can contend.  But they could end up trading ultimately trading their 2nd round pick (which they forfeit to sign Bourn) and whatever cash they pay to Bourn while he's an Indian for a couple of prospects.
