I am glad to see Mike Matheny get out in front of this issue. After all that the rule changes the NFL has instituted since I started following it back in 1977 to ban the obviously and unecessarily dangerous aspects of the game, MLB is way behind in changing the rule on home plate collisions. I wouldn't be surprised if they face possible law suits down the road if they delay too much longer.
And once the home plate collision is banned, can it be only a matter of time before rules to minimize spiking the second baseman are instituted?
