The Welker Shuffle

So there are broken-hearted fan boys all across New England this morning because their favorite elf is headed to Denver.
Belichick's pretentiousness aside, how are the Broncos going to pay their guys? Manning and Dumervil make eight figures. They franchised one offensive lineman and signed another offensive lineman as a free agent. They picked up Welker and Rogers-Cromartie yesterday. Champ Bailey has to be pulling down some serious change, right?
It's not like the Broncos haven't tried to skirt the salary cap before. I'd expect a real commissioner to ask to see Denver's books, but he's too busy washing Pat Bowlen's balls to bother.

Re: The Welker Shuffle

This website shows the Broncos less than $200,000 under the cap.  It already has Welker's deal listed, so it's obviously kept up to date, but I've never heard of the site so I can't speak to the accuracy of its data.

I don't doubt the figures the Broncos will submit to the league will have them under the cap. What they actually pay in salaries may be a different story. Remember, this is the owner that tried to give Elway a chunk of the franchise in lieu of a salary. When the 49ers were owned by a convicted felon, they just blew off the salary cap year after year, and no one seemed to care.
