Miller starts today with Kelly to follow in round 2 of the competition for the 5th starter's job.

I think the advantage goes to Kelly. I mean that in that he will have the better numbers during this competition. He is more used to coming out of the pen then Miller and likely will adjust to that better then Miller did last time out.

Good. I really hope Miller wins this job. Kelly was extremely effective as a reliever last year. He was decent as a starter, but much better as a reliever. It simply doesn't make sense to put Kelly in the rotation and Miller in the bullpen, particularly if they're acknowledging that Miller's future is in the rotation. Put Miller in the rotation and let him start to develop in that role.

Has there been anything mentioned so far this spring about Miller's pitch selection? I think I recall reading last year they had to go to a no shake with him in Memphis because he tended to try to blaze his way out of every tight spot with his fastbal.

He had a "no shake" rule put on him after the ASB, then he came back and pretty much blew everyone away. I think he had 70 strikeouts to seven walks.
I'm not sure what they are encouraging him to do this spring, but after watching him last week it's apparent that he's making an effort to keep hitters honest with the curve.

It is basicly a reversal of last week stats.
