Goold reports that the Cardinals cut him. Adams is going to make the roster and play first base when Beltran needs a break. Carpenter is apparently going to take over at second base, but I would imagine Descalso starts at second when Adams is at first. Hopefully anyway.

I cant believe it. It seems so logical.

This never would have happened in the LaRussa Era.

Strauss was on McKernan's morning show and talked about how Cedeno's release was the culmination of a perfect storm of positive events for the Cardinals. Carpenter had to play well enough to make the team comfortable with him at second base. Kozma had to play well enough to make them comfortable with him as the shortstop. And Adams had to show he belonged on the bench. All of those things happened (along with Furcal not being healthy and Cedeno sucking).

Good take by Strauss. I'd also throw in Descalso showing he can back up Kozma at short. I don't know if that's happened, but I suspect they're not looking at Kozma as the second coming of Cal Ripken Jr.

It's very Un La Russa for the Cardinals to go into the season with just two actual middle infielders. He probably had a stroke when he read Cedeno got cut.
