Has the Barton trade finally tipped in our favor?

"The Oakland Athletics designated infielderDaric Barton and left-hander Travis Blackley for assignment on Friday."

Re: Has the Barton trade finally tipped in our favor?

"Barton batted .204 in 46 games last year with the A's and .249 with 27 home runs, 163 RBIs and 272 walks in 484 games in his Oakland career."

Wow. A lot of people were more upset about losing Barton than Haren.

This board would be more fun if we all had better memories about the positions we held.  I know that I, for one, posted immediately upon hearing of that trade that it was a bad one: "Haren would be a star, Mulder would break down and retire young", I wrote.  Besides Barton, I don't think I even recall the third guy who we traded away.

... the hottest spot north of Havana.

Ever seen the crowd at a Barry Manilow show? It's like a MILF convention.

Can't say as I've ever been to a Barry Manilow show.

There was a story from Australia, about how a town was able to chase away a gang of teens and hooligans who used to hang out in the evenings at a given spot.  Their solution was to pipe Barry Manilow music into the hang out.  I used to use that when teaching conservation biology as an example of using what works, not necessarily what makes intuitive sense or feels "just".

Sort of like how the Marines pepper the prisoners at Gitmo with non-stop Metallica tunes?

I've never been to a Manilow show, but I was able to watch about five minutes of one on TV once before nausea set in. When he broke into "Copacabana," women in the audience were literally clawing at each other trying to rush the stage.
