Molina was clearly calling for off-speed stuff.

Then I'm at a loss.

IMO, just an example of trying to be too cute. Figuring the batters are looking fastball and convincing yourself they'll be fooled by off-speed stuff.

Re: 4/3 Gamecrap

Can the Cardinals' bullpen hold out until Gibson is forced to bring Heath Bell into the game?

This is a spot where you really would like to lift Adams for a pinch-runner but can't. Damn.

Pete Kozma is out of his mind still.

Re: 4/3 Gamecrap

Now we have to go through the rigamarole of Boggs trying to get three outs.

Re: 4/3 Gamecrap

Josh Collmenter isn't very good. Hit him for cripe's sakes.

Collmenter has these guys completely fooled.

Re: 4/3 Gamecrap

TK, this is why people in the newspaper industry don't trust the Associated Press:

"Daniel Descalo tied his career high with four hits for St. Louis, including two doubles.

Paul Kozma's RBI single off Collmenter put St. Louis up 9-8 in the 12th ...."

I realize the writer is probably based in Phoenix, but key-rist. Neither one of these guys is a household name, but you have to be pretty ignorant in your craft if you've never heard of them before. This is Descalso's third year in te league, and Kozma was at the center of the most controversial play in the playoffs last year.
And if nothing else, the teams provide you with proper spellings and first names, play-by-play and even quotes these days. You barely even have to watch the game anymore.

Re: 4/3 Gamecrap

Rosenthal didnt look good.  I agree there were to many off speed pitches.  Way to many.  It is like they forgot he can throw 100mph.

Didnt see lynn but his line looks as bad as i expected.

Salas needs cut.  What is sanchez up to?  If ur going to get burnt might as well have someone with actual good stuff in there.

my guess is that he is tipping his pitches.  They were on his offspeedstuff.  U cant do that from a 100mph fastball unless u know it is coming.

Oh and his change up is 87mph.  Wow

Yeah, that's pretty bad. I think my first journalism teacher would have flunked them out of the class. She was a Nazi about that stuff.

Lynn just couldn't throw his breaking pitches where he wanted to. Didn't he have problems with control on the road last year, too? I seem to remember he was a much better pitcher at home.

Salas is becoming less effective every time he pitches, but I don't think I have the strength left to watch Sanchez. He's an ulcer-inducer.

Re: 4/3 Gamecrap

 "They were on his offspeedstuff."

There were on his off-speed stuff because his off-speed stuff isn't major league caliber yet. The slider he threw to Prado was belt-high center cut. There's no reason for Rosenthal to throw anything but a 4-seam fastball in his current role.

It looked like every game he pitched from June on last season. His fastball was topping out at 91 and he was throwing it up in the zone. When he threw a curve it was flat. His control was all over the place. Less than 60 percent of his pitches were strikes.

I'd have to go back and look, but after Game 5 last year I asked if the Cardinals would be willing to trade Lynn. I suppose we should give him some time to find his bearings after losing all that weight, but it seems to me that's going to be the excuse du jour to explain away his troubles this season.

We all make mistakes, but those are lazy mistakes. Unfortunately, AP's virtual monarchy as the wire service provider has led it to become bloated and lazy.
