This is the first of seen Lynn throw this season. The Lynn that pitched the first 2 innings is an asset. Good velocity and movement.

OK, someone who played baseball, help me out.
Runner on 1st, 3-2 count with 1 out Votto at the plate and the runner has already run once (and the ball fouled). With a left handed at the plate, and the first baseman holding the runner, why would Deacalso be covering 2nd, thus giving Votto the entire right side of the infield?

Great question. I have no earthly idea what was going on there, just as I have no idea why Arroyo has thrown 50 pitches in four innings.
Offline
Arroyo is 12 outs away from a perfect game.

Dan beat me to it, but Garcia and Lynn have combined for 20 strikes in less than 12 innings. Pretty impressive.

Seems like the opportune spot for Choate. That IS why they have him for the next three years.
Three years.
ETA: Or Lynn could get out of the jam on his own.

Good lord that was smoked. WTG, Matt Adams.

Can we not do curtain calls in the sixth inning of a 2-1 game?

Hey Al. You can stop with the Brandon Phillips Admiration Society. He's a piece of garbage.

Or in every inning of any game.

Wonderif Dusty will accuse LaRussa of cutting the line to the Reds' bullpen?

I know you feel Strauss is too snarky, but when they do stupid stuff like that, the fans deserve to be snarked (is that a word?).

Bucket of ice to Mr. Arroyo's table, please.

The Cardinals are having a Harry Potter-themed scavenger hunt and Descalso suddenly thought a horcrux might be hidden under second base?

Mujica is nails.
This game got a lot more fun to watch in the last half-hour.

That explains a lot. Tough to play good defense with the Sword of Gryffendor in your back pocket.

Did Hrabosky really just say Wigginton scares the other team?

Wigginton has to put the ball in play there. It doesn;t matter if it goes five feet. He just has to.

Touche.
(Get it? You brought sword into the conversation and I replied with a fencing term? We're just a couple of cunning linguists.)

Then again, Wigginton probably saved Molina from certain death in a collision with Hanigan at the plate because the idiot third base coach would have sent him on Jay's shallow fly ball.

What a difference 300 miles make. It's really, really cold in Chicago tonight. Arctic Circle cold, by the looks of what people are wearing.

But as cold as it is, the conditions didn't prevent Nathan Axford Forrest from melting down again.
