Key-rist. That needs to be turned.

Wasn't a good idea to start with Wainwright.

And here's where LaRoche ties it.

I hate to admit that was a really, really good AB by Harper.

That had quite the wiffle ball hook to it.

I know this is unfair because I'm comparing MM to one of the greatest managers of all-time. but when La Russa got you up in the bullpen, you were coming in the game. It seems like six guys warm up every night for the Cardinals, and only half of them end up pitching. Who the hell is Kelly getting loose for right now?

Danny Mac said he was coming in if LaRoche tied it.
Great finish by Mujica.
Wainwright now has 37 strikeouts to one walk. In 2010 Cliff Lee walked 18 batters in 212 innings. I don't know if Waino will replicate that but he's on the right path.

Idiot Sidekick: "You wonder why a guy with Manny Parra's stuff has a career record that's seven games under .500."

See, you can't do that every night. If you get a guy warm in the bullpen, it's just like an appearance. And those pitches add up. If LaRoche ties it, have Mujica get you out of the ninth, and then get Kelly ready for the 10th.

It's still early, but I have a feeling we're going to look back at the end of the year and feel like the Cardinals got a bargain price for Wainwright.

Thankfully this isn't the NFL and he can opt-out.

On the other hand, if it was the NFL, we'd have saved a lot of money on Furcal and Carpenter.

Now Brennaman's mentally-retarded offspring is complaining about Darwin Barney hitting a cheap home run. When the Reds play in a park that has Pony League dimensions, their acolytes can't bitch about some banjo hitter from the other team hitting a ball over the fence. Geezus. Todd Frazier threw his bat at the ball in a game last year and it went out in the same spot, and Brennaman practically said it was the greatest feat since Mickey Mantle hit one off the clock at the old Yankee Stadium.

And Ty Wigginton would be on someone else's practice squad.

I know the blown save is a relatively new statistic, but Carlos Marmol has to be on pace to personally set the record for most blown saves by an entire team.

If the Cubs had blown that game, and the Reds sent up Votto as the potential winning run in the 10th, I would have shit in my hat. Literally. I would have gone into my closet, taken out a hat I don't wear anymore, and dropped a deuce.

I was just going to post this. Imo, looking at managing as a fan i would say getting pitchers up in the pen is the hardest part of a managers job.

I thoight the cubs banished him as closer.

He's not the closer, but Sveum brought him in to face Votto last night because Votto had been something like 1-for-15 with nine strikeouts against him, and Marmol made him look silly on Monday night.
Votto actually hit a pretty good pitch from Marmol last night to drive in the trying run. It was a slider that was down and in, and Votto hit a 6-hopper up the middle that Barney just missed with a dive.

Ok, but at least allow they're brass staples.
In all sincerity, I'm wondering how much longer Mujica can exist in the closer's role throwing nothing but splitters. He's barely even bothering with fastballs anymore. I suppose there's the rationale that you don't get beat with your second best pitch with the game on the line, but these guys are going to watch film and make adjustments.
As far as Jay is concerned, they may be finally on to him. They used to try to bust him up and in because he has all that movement with his hands at the plate, but he could fight off that pitch and dump it into left field. It looks to me lately like they're feeding him stuff that's away, and he's rolling over and hitting a ton of ground balls to the right side.

Absolutely. He also had Choate throwing in the eighth last night, in case it came down to Harper and/or LaRoche in that inning. I can see that, but why not go to him anyway in the ninth to face those two guys and bring in Mujica if one of them gets on? It's not like Mujica is the second coming of Mariano Rivera and he's going to get offended if someone else starts the ninth inning.

I used to say mujica needs to use another pitch to be effective but after motte got the job done all last year with pretty much one pitch idk. I hope he keeps it together. I still can figure out why rosenthal has been more effective this year. His stuff seems good. Maybe his fastball is straighter then millers..lol
I wonder how this turns out for jay. His one trick was hitting for average. Bernie had an interesting piece about him and how he can draw walks. I wonder about seeing tavares called up with things dont change.
