Gast looks good to start.

Matt Carpenter doesn't get cheated at the plate. I wish all these guys took his mentality. I'm looking at you Allen Craig and Carlos Beltran.

The hell? When did the Mets get so crummy?
Offline
Defense has been crisp.

Cardinals just don't look locked in offensively. Dillon Gee is one of the worst pitchers in the league and they have one hard hit ball, and a competent major league center fielder catches it.

Does Gast throw 130 pitches tonight?

The Mets stink like spoiled milk.

Off-topic, but I'm seeing on the crawl at the bottom of the screen there's a team called the Pelicans in the NBA?

He's thrown 49 pitches through five. I think Lynn threw 50 in the first two innings last night.

What the hell is Darryl Strawberry doing in the crowd? Are the Cardinals sponsoring a crack cocaine give-away tonight?

Ball eight ...

Hey, at least Beltran had to hit his way on.

The team formerly known as the Hornets.

So the New Orleans Hornets is a misnomer, but the Utah Jazz is OK? Not to mention grizzly bears haven't been indigenous to western Tennessee since the Pleistocene Epoch.

Somebody seriously named their team the Pelicans? They had to have lost a bet with David Stern.

I'm blacked out of this one so can someone tell me how Gast looked. I'm stuck on a work trip in Iowa. The only "baseball" I found on TV was Cedar Rapids v. Quad Cities. I'm way to sober to watch any of that.

He was fine. Not any better or worse than Wesbrook.

Very good for five innings. He would have been out of the sixth allowing just two runs if the Cardinals hadn't screwed up a rundown, which would have been the third out. Then Marlon Byrd hit a home run that landed in somewhere in north St. Louis.
He doesn't throw hard, but he has good control and he's not afraid to come inside and challenge. He worked quickly and efficiently.
Other than the botched rundown, the Cardinals played pretty good defense behind him. Freese and Craig each got outs on tough ground balls early in the game, and Jay also made a nice running catch near the warning track

No one ever really wins a bet with David Stern.

Strauss was grousing earlier about fans complaining about 25th men when the Cardinals have the best record in baseball, but I don't see how Ty Wigginton being trusted to play once every four weeks and seldomly bat in situations where the Cardinals are in a blowout situation ISN'T a problem. Just because they haven't gotten to the point yet where trusting only 10 guys doesn't matter doesn't mean it isn't something to consider down the road.
