Looks like weather will delay the start by at least an hour
1. Matt Carpenter, RF
2. Yadier Molina, C
3. Left Shoulder Strain, DH
4. Allen Craig, LF
5. Matt Adams, 1B
6. David Freese, 3B
7. Jon Jay, CF
8. Honus, SS
9. Drosselmeyer, 2B
Adam Wainwright will start opposite Royals righty James Shields.
Matt Holliday said he's getting a scheduled day off. He said either he's getting "a day off or I've been benched." He does not have a physical ailment that would keep him from the field or from starting at designated hitter today.

According to the P-D, first pitch is 2:10 at the earliest. Central time.

Al is probably pissed at that home run. Can't have a home run coming from too early in the order.

Hudler: "Yadier Molina is one of the greatest catchers in the game. Not just here, but all over the world."
I dunno, Rexy. There might be a couple of catchers in the Swiss League that are greater than Yadi.

These are the things that happen when non-OFers play the outfield.

Just checking Yahoo when I can. Was that really a four-pitch 8th for Waino?

Yeah. He got the first batter on two pitches, Tejada beat out a bunt on the first pitch, and then Franceour popped up the first pitch to Jay, who doubled off Tejada.
I think he only needed 6 or 7 pitches to get out of the 7th, too.

Nice of the Royals to oblige. I was hoping he'd use someone other than Mujica today, but suppose that's nitpicking. Hard to complain when they keep winning.

They were pretty aggressive at the plate all day. I think their M.O. was to not allow themselves to get behind in the count and have to worry about Waino's curveball. They ended up with about a dozen hits, but I think they were all singles, and there weren't more than a couple that were really hit hard.
I think if I was managing a team that was playing the Cardnals, I'd tell my hitters not to swing until there were two strikes, build a pitch count against the starter and get him out of the game as early as I could, but Ned Yost has never been accused of being one of the world's great thinkers.

With an athelete like Wainwright, it would be less effective, but I used to pray for this when Fat Ass Clemens would pitch. I wanted them to work counts and then bunt . . . every fucking batter, just to make Fat Ass run around and break his rhythm. The other thing I wanted them to do was to intentionally walk him each time he came up (when playing NL rules). There aren't many people I dislike enough to call them really derogatory names, but Fat Ass Clemens has what's coming to him.

Two plays in particular were Craig taking the scenic route on a fly ball in the first inning, and Carpenter breaking back on a popup that fell in front of him in the third. It seemed like all the Cardinals were having problems judging anything hit in the air yesterday, though. I don't know if it was the unfamiliarity with the ballpark or the conditions or what.
