Martinez down, Marte up

I hate Victor Marte. H-A-T-E!!!  I'm going to hate watching him pitch, and I'm going to hate Matheny every time he brings Marte into a game that's closer than 6 runs.

Re: Martinez down, Marte up

Oh good fucking grief. This better be about stretching Martinez out to be a starter.

Re: Martinez down, Marte up

Ive got a question.  I know a player gets payed much better on the mlb roster then they do in triple a.  So when a player goes on the dl, like gast, after being called up do they stay on the mlb payroll.  In that case it would benifit a player to put up with his injury in triple a and wait to address it after being called up, like gast did.

Good question. I think since they are already on the 40-man they are being paid a MLB salary.

Not only does Gast continue to get a major league salary, but he continues to accumulate MLB service time while he's on the DL which gets him closer to arbitration.

Now THAT is the kind of cynical thinking I like to read!!!

Re: Martinez down, Marte up

According to Yahoo depth chart, the starting rotaion includes Tyler Lyons and John Gast.  I'm guessing they'll replace Gast on that soon.

Re: Martinez down, Marte up

Wacha was scratched from his scheduled start today at Memphis.

Also, Westbrook cancelled his appointment with Dr. Andrews after today's throwing session.

Per Strauss, Martinez was sent down to stretch him out as a starter.

Yahoo shows Wacha as Thursday's scheduled starter.

Is that good news or bad news?

I thought that the only reason Strauss used to get those inside stories was because that was his beat, and that now that he is to be a columnist, that Derrick Goold would have all the interesting inside tips.  Wha' happened?

Guess it depends on your opinion of Westbrook. He was scheduled to leave to see Andrews, decided to throw one more time, threw 20 fastballs and felt no pain, so he threw another simulated inning and again felt no pain.

Long and short is they're hoping that whatever shots Westbrook received have finally helped. But Westbrook has a l-o-n-g history of elbow issues.

idk but i dont think everyone on the 40man is getting paid the 490,000, or whatever minimum.

Allgood news.  This team needs westbrook imo.  He is a workhourse.  Everything falls apart when starts fail to eat innings.  As young as this rotation is it coule be very volitale.

i am not accusing gast of plaing the system but it has to happen alot.  If you go on the dl a couple times as a triple a starter your stock would decline.

"I thought that the only reason Strauss used to get those inside stories was because that was his beat, and that now that he is to be a columnist, that Derrick Goold would have all the interesting inside tips.  Wha' happened?"

His sources haven't gone away, and sources tend to remain loyal to a writer even after his role has changed. I do miss the Tsunami. Goold is fine, but I appreciated Strauss' wit, even in his snarkier moments.

I believe we were told by one Strauss critic that all of this would change because of shifting assignments.

I don't recall what was written here, but Strauss' sources within the Cardinals organization aren't suddenly going to drift to Goold just because Strauss is writing about the Rams, just as Miklasz's sources with the Rams aren't going to immedately confide in Strauss.
There was an interesting story that came out a few years ago about the rift between Will McDonough and Ron Borges at the Boston Globe. McDonough was a columnist and inside Parcells' inner circle, while Borges was the Patriots' beat guy and had his own sources. The draft was coming up, and Parcells wanted to pick a defensive lineman, while Kraft wanted to pick Terry Glenn, the wide receiver from Ohio State.
Borges wrote right before the draft that the pick was going to be Glenn, and after the paper came out that day McDonough apparently came up to him in the office and asked "Who lied to you?"

I said nothing like that.

Also, go see who reported that Wacha is coming up Thursday. Hint: it's not the guy who is playing grab ass on Twitter about Oscar Taveras.

That is my memory of what you told us, TK, but I could have gotten it jumbled.
