It wouldn't bother me if Boston wants to repeat the first period here in the third. They almost did. That was a butt-kicking.
Unfortunately, I entered the week 60 points out of first, but I've shaved 20 off of that lead in 2 games.
This isn't a hockey thread, but I have no idea what's going on with the Penguins right now.

Bernie had aartical throwing the idea of a beltran, tavares and holliday outfield. it is interesting.First of all, Taveras is hurt, and secondly, why would Bernie want to rush him to the majors when the major league team is playing so well right now? He's 21. Let him stay in Memphis and give him a shot in 2014.
The article AP is talking about was regarding 2014 and was written along the lines of "maybe they'd bring Beltran back for 2014."

"oh shit, ur going to send tk in a full blown rasmus fit."

Whatever's happening with Pittsburgh, I hope it lasts 2 more games.

Nah, I agree. Taveras should spend the year in Memphis, especially with the ankle stuff that's going on.

the logicaldebate isto say that tavarez is better then jay. Why keep him in memphis?
Leaving alone the part about Jay being a .300 hitter with plus defensive range in centerfield on a team that won a WS and came within one game of playing in another, because if you bring up Taveras too early and he goes 1-for-25 and you have to send him back down, you've messed him up for who knows how long? The kid has played 30 games at Triple A. Every day is a new experience for him. He's still learning how to be a professional baseball player. Why rush him if you don't have to?
If you want to see how rushing a can't-miss prospect to the majors has repercussions, look at the way the Pirates have handled Pedro Alvarez. He can't stick in the major leagues because the only thing he's learned how to do is hit a fastball from a right-handed pitcher 435 feet.

Can I answer that on Nov. 1? Everybody is fired up about Beltran right now, but he was awful in the second half last season. He's getting more rest in the first half this year so far, but if I'm Mo I want to see where he ends up before I commit to him for at least another year. And I have no idea what's going on with Taveras' ankle. It was supposed to be a short term injury, but he hasn't played in three weeks and now they've put him on the DL.
Barring something weird, Wong is going to be ready to play in the majors next year. Carpenter has to play somewhere. Do you move him to right field? The Cardinals seem to have an embarrassment of riches right now. It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

I agree you dont extend beltran now. It is just an notion right now.
Idk about carp in right. Mm seems unwilling to play him in the outfield. I dont see how wong, carp amd freese all fit. I dont think they can.

They have to make a decision on Freese. Last season is his last before free agency. They probably either need to make a long term commitment or move him while he has value.

Last week i would have said move him but he is coming around. When he is good, he is good.

Strauss' chat last week included an item about the Cardinals not being very interested in signing Freese to an extension.

Yes, my fingers didn't type what I was trying to say.
However, what I meant to type was incorrect. Freese still has 2 years of arbitration left. He can't become a free agent until after the 2015 season.
I can't say that I blame them for being leery of signing Freese to an extension. He's 30, they control him until he's 32. Freese has only played more than 100 games in a season once in his career and he's had off-field issues.
Right now the Cardinals don't have a glaring hole that needs to be filled. Honus has been serviceable at short, and he's inexpensive. They could certainly upgrade the position, but shortstop isn't as pressing a need as it seemed to be before the year started.

i just deleted my post saying the same thing because i didnt read ahead. 2 more years of freese being cost controled is enough. I dont expect freese to be productive into his mid 30s. He is a fine player but he isnt worth signing a 3 or 4 year contract with.
I think the biggest hole in the roster is going to be starting pitching. Westbrook coming back will help but who knows which westbrook we will see and who knows for how long. Carp coming back as a starter is desperate and wreckless, imo. The bullpen would be much better for him, imo. I still dont think signing loshe this offseason would have been a bad idea. i think these young guys are going to wear down. The team can afford lynn and miller to wear down but they very well coukd. Gast and lyons i dont believe are gojng to be able to pitch the full season. Oh and joe kelly needs a trip to memphis.

IMO, driving 100 yards off of the road when he swerved to miss hitting a deer, on top of his DUI(s?), probably play a major role.
On top of that, the age issue is working against Freese. It is a cutthroat business, and Freese may never see his eight figure payday.
