NCAA Regionals

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised the selection committee awarded three seeds to a conference that hasn't won a national championship since 1955 and set up the regionals so two of the four best teams in the country play each other in the Supers. I can't believe Arizona and Stanford didn't make it, and Georgia Tech and Florida did.

Re: NCAA Regionals

Yeah I noticed teams like Elon, Canisius, and a couple others and was like ??????? But I guess they have an automatic entry as a conference winner.

Bryant College made it. Bryant is a dinky little business school in Rhode Island that churns out great accountants, but not so many great baseball players.
The NCAA wants to make the baseball tourney like Marxh Madness, but you can't with a double elim format. If a minnow takes out a big fish on the first day, the big fish is still in the pond and the minnow has to win at least two more games. #4 seeds almost never make it out of the regionals. The only one I can think of is Fresno State. I'm sure there have been more, but the #3 and #4 seeds usually don't have the pitching depth.

Re: NCAA Regionals

The only #1 seed to go down thus far is Virginia Tech, which was over-seeded. Five spots to be decided today, including the berth from the Starkville regional, where Central Arkansas remains the only #4 still alive.
The Sun Devils were pretty much done after Saturday's 1-0 loss to Fullerton. Fullerton took the gamble going with its #3 starter on Friday, and they had Garza and Eshelman left for the weekend.

Re: NCAA Regionals

I'm anxious about the Oregon/Rice game tonight. Lost to them 1-0 earlier in the weekend.

We'll see though. NC State//Oregon will be tough fought I think. Teams are really on the same level overall.

Also, I'm thinking that NC State/Oregon will be in NC State, although I could be wrong there.

Oregon is a national seed, so the Super will be in Eugene, if Oregon wins tonight.
I can't imagine Rice has too much pitching left. They may have to bring back Kubitza on two days rest at some point. I don't know if you saw it, but Rice was lucky to beat San Francisco on Friday. The winning run scored when San Francisco's left fielder lost a routine fly ball in the sun with two outs in the 11th inning.

The Pac 12 has an 11-3 record so far. The Big 12 has the highest winning percentage at 8-2. The ACC is 18-8, though the three teams that have advanced so far were all playing at home against weak competition. The conference that's really struggled is the SEC, which is 16-12. South Carolina won today, which puts it into the Supers, but they really need Vandy and Mississippi State to win tonight, or it will be an embarrassing tournament for the SEC.

Re: NCAA Regionals

Yeah, Oregon didn't pitch well at all yesterday. Seemed like everyone they brought up to the mound either couldn't throw a strike or got hammered when he did..

Oh well, Oregon State is still there, and I'll still cheer for them.

That's the problem with losing a game early, you run out of pitching.
I stayed up way too late watching UNC/Florida Atlantic. One of the wildest games I've ever seen.
