Re: 6/8 GC

7 pitch inning.  That is only 4 over the minimum!

Re: 6/8 GC

How did Molina go from the hitter he was in 2004 to where he is now?  That's simple a remarkable level of improvement.

Whew. Fortunately, it appears Robinson is less dense than a Korean.

It's a shame when they did that Phillips/Morgan comparison they didn't include playoff series wins or World Series rings.

Re: 6/8 GC

Did MM just bring in a lefty to replace a lefty to face a lefty?

Re: 6/8 GC

OK, WTF happened there? Gameday claims Bruce "singles on a soft ground ball to Yadier Molina."

I always thought Morgan was overrated. Sure, he was the best second baseman of his era, but there weren't a lot of great second basemen in his era.

Tapper in front of the plate. It was Choate's play, but for some reason he held back and by the time Molina picked it up and threw to first, Bruce was safe.

I think he did the same thing earlier in the week. I questioned it here but nobody replied, so I was hoping Yahoo wasn't telling the whole story.

That doesn't explain how the Cardinals got "Cuzzied."

Re: 6/8 GC

The Cardinals had runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs in the 9th. Beltran hit a ground ball, the throw appeared to pull Votto off the base and replay appeared to confirm it, but Cuzzi called Beltran out, ending the game.

I'd like to see how they compared them numbers-wise. Morgan was an elite hitter for a stretch of time and an outstanding base runner. Phillips is a good-hitting second baseman.

I believe it was batting average, doubles, HR and RBI as a Red. Their number were very similar in those 4 categories.

Re: 6/8 GC

The most significant difference is in OBP. Morgan had nine seasons when his OBP was over .400. Phillips has never had a seasom even close to .400. His best OBP for a full year is .353.
Morgan was a line drive to the gaps hitter, but it goes without saying his power numbers would have been closer to Phillips' if Morgan had played at the Great American Launching Pad and not Riverfront Stadium.
Defensively, Morgan won five Gold Gloves, and Phillips has won three. But if you go by the Runs Saved metric, Morgan probably should have won one, maybe two. He won a GG one year he was +4, and won two others with a negative number.
Statistically, Phillips had one good year (2007) and one very good year (2008) defensively, but he's about average now. The argument Brennaman's Mentally-Retarded Son and his Idiot Sidekick make almost every night that Phillips got robbed of a Gold Glove last year has no basis in statistical evidence. Darwin Barney was far and away the best defensive second baseman in baseball last year.

Did he throw anyone out of the game before someone told him the game was over?

No. According to the Post, Matheny asked Cuzzi to ask one of the other umps for help (Cuzzi was in terrible position) and Cuzzi just walked off the field.

It's embarrassing MLB still lets Cuzzi work.

"It's embarrassing MLB still lets Cuzzi work."

As bad as Angel Henerndez and C.B. Bucknor are, they're just bad umpires period end of sentence. They're not angry and bad. The only one who comes close to the combination of Cuzzi's anger and incompetence these days is Bob Davidson, and Davidson was at least a pretty good umpire 30 years ago. He's got the excuse that the game has passed him by. Cuzzi has been terrible and confrontational since the day he arrived in the majors.
