Cueto left in the second inning with an apparent injury. I'm sure that he was pitching poorly against the Rangers had nothing to do with it.

So who is the longperson in the bullpen ?

Kelly,
Miller can't throw a breaking pitch for a strike. They're sitting fastball.

Bartolo Colon is fat.

From May 15 to this moment, Miller's ERA has gone up in 7 of the 8 games he has pitched, from 1.4 to 2.79. Measured across that stretch his ERA is surely rather average. Any reason to be worried that April 6 to May 15 was more fluke than anything else? If so, do the Cards need to find a #3-4 pitcher for midseason fix, or a #1-2?

Why do we even bother to show up when the opposing team fields a pitcher like Bartolo Colon? Who the fuck are we to think we can play baseball on the same field as Bartolo Colon?!?

The A's brough a can of ass-whoop in the shape of the biggest ass they could find.
By my count we are 12-13 since the beginning of June.

Skip Schumaker pitched the 9th inning tonight for the Dodgers. He loaded the bases, but struck out the final batter on a 90 mph fastball.

Does he want to cultivate comparisons with Aaron Miles?

Pie Rats win. Cardinals just slipped out of first place.
Pittsburgh has the best record in MLB.

Anyone know what Miller was topping out at? Right now this entire rotation is showing strain. The idea of going with a four-man group until the ASB is dumb. Miller needs a break and pronto.

I didn't watch the whole game, but his fastball was around 94.

That's a good sign. Hopefully it's just him not being sharp.

I agree that starting pitching has nose-dived, but our problems might not just be the rotation. The offense is not producing consistently, either. In our losses in June we managed the following run totals:
2, 6, 3, 2, 1, 4, 2, 4, 4, 2, 1, 3, 1
That's an average of only 2.69 RPG in our losses, and in only one case did we score more than 4 runs. Currently the league average is 3.92 ERA (probably a little less than league average for RPG, a stat I cannot find). Thus, in 12 of our 13 losses in June the offense did not produce enough runs to give the team a good statistical chance to win.
Figure this, even after a disappointing June, the Cards--with 388 R in 79 games--are averaging 4.9 RPG.

Bartolo Colon is 11-2. His head may explode because of all the PEDs in his system, but he's pitched well.

You only had to watch the first two innings.

His fastball was fine, TK. Unfortunately, he couldn't throw any other pitch for a strike. The A's were spitting at everything else, and whacking his fastball when he had to throw it over the plate.
