We made fun of Billy Beane when he signed Cespedes, but this kid is putting on a show in this HR Derby.
Forgot to add Chris Berman is still annoying.

He's hitting what? .225? He shouldn't be anywhere near an event with "All-Star" in the title.
With him and Pedro All-varez (Brennaman pronunciation), the HR derby has turned into the equivalent of the ring-the-bell-with-the-sledgehammer-at-the-State-Fair.

I must have missed it when the HR Derby was anything other than the ring-the-bell-with-the-sledgehammer act.
The only reason I watched last night was because Bob's ballgame was cancelled by the most isolated shower in St. Louis history. I hadn't made it there yet, but it apparently poured down rain at the ball field for 10 solid minutes before the umps called the game at 6:15. Bob was home, changed and at football camp (on a completely dry field less than 5 miles away) by 6:30.

How does the weatherman describe that?
I thought the first couple of HR derbies were interesting, because it seemed like there were more prestigious names like Griffey and McGwire competing. Now you have ordinary guys competing, and it's not nearly as compelling. Who wants to see Michael Cuddyer take batting practice?
The whole All-Star thing has really changed for me. I used to look forward to it. Now I'd rather see as few Cardinals as possible go, and if they have to go, I hope they only play an inning or two because I'd rather see them get rest before the second half of the season starts.

I have no clue, but it was fairly comical to hear Michele describing how they all had to huddle in the dugouts to get some protection from the storm, meanwhile I'm wearing my sunglasses while driving home from downtown St. Louis. Our house is 5 minutes from the fields and it was completely dry at the house.

That's why the whole "This time it counts" is a joke. If it counted, Bruce Bochy should be able to take his best 9 and throw them on the field for the whole game. It's an exhibition. MLB (Selig specifically) should quit trying to make it something it isn't.

Agree with both of you; all-star game and weather . Seen it raining cats and dogs on one side of the interstate and sunny and dry on the other side .

We tend to get total washouts or sunny days here. The weirdest weather I've ever experienced is in Britain. It goes from sunny to rainy to back to sunny to cloudy back to sunny to drizzle all in the span of about four hours.
Upstate New York and Western Massachusetts have really shitty weather. About the middle of October, the sky gets gray and stays that way until about Memorial Day. It's depressing as hell, but you've got to be in dire straits in the first place to live in Western Mass. or upstate New York.

Speaking of washouts ; the AL just rained on the NL in a pretty boring All Star game .

I got home from work just in time to see Neil Diamond braying "Sweet Caroline," and wanted to turn off the TV then and there. But there was nothing else good on.
The send-off ceremony for Skeletor was OK, I guess. My only other comments are that Carpenter got hosed on the called third strike, which was six inches off the plate, and I'm glad none of the Cardinals who played got hurt.
