I'm not home to watch, but I'm guessing this was the "Pete Kozma's in the lineup because of his defense" segment.

Not yet. He was still slobbering over Adams' seeing eye single during most of Kozma's at bat.

What's the aggregate range factor for the defense the Phillies have on the field tonight?

Joe West is a terrible umpire.

Typical inning. Westbrook draws a 2-out walk, swipes second, and scores on a single.

I heard that in the car. I'm glad to get an insurance run, but I hope it didn't cost Westbrook his legs.

He's not looking as sharp this inning, but he's had shit luck, too. Mayberry's hit was a roller to third and Ruiz hit a 6-hopper through the 34 hole.

Exactly what you want a pinch-hitter to do: GIDP to end the top of the fifth.

Freese is going to hurt someone in the crowd tonight.

You know, as potent as the Cardinals' offense is, you can get away with playing Kozma at short because he gives you defense.

I seem to remember when Lee signed with Philadelphia, Max predicted they would win multiple championship, whereas TK thought their window was small because the offense was old. TK nailed it. The Cardinals knocked them out in 2011, and in a short period of time, Philadelphia got pretty bad.

I believe Holliday was acquired this day four years ago.

It would be nice to get thru this game without using Rosenthal or Mujica. Lets see if it actually happens.

Still waiting to see how that one works out. Wallace's OPS is .966 this month.

My wife has a better arm than Joe West.

Wallace looked good the last time we played Houston. He lost some weight. The difference in the minor league per diem I suppose.

Decent inning from Martinez. Something to build on.

Yep. It'd be nice to go into Pittsburgh Monday with at least a 3-game lead.

I wouldn't count on it. The Pirates finish up their series with the Nashnils and their somnambulant offense this afternoon. At least Warshington has Gio Gonzalez going, which means the Nashnils will lose by only 1-0.
After today, the Pirates go to Miami, and the Cardinals go to Atlanta. On the plus side, it looks like they won't have to face Tim Hudson.
The Cardinals' schedule for the next couple of weeks is brutal. After Atlanta, they go to Pissburgh for five games in four days, then to Cincinnati, and then they're home against the Dodgers.
