...has to be one of the dumbest people on the planet.
"On a day he was to spend resting and recovering from the sore left quadriceps he himself reported four days ago, and that supposedly showed as a Grade 1 strain on an MRI three days ago, Alex Rodriguez was frantically contesting the fact he had a sore left quadriceps and the MRI that confirmed it.
Apparently, he'd sent copies of the MRI – or had them sent – to a New Jersey doctor, then conversed by telephone with the doctor, and then the doctor went on New York radio to say, among other things, "To be perfectly honest, I don't see any sort of injury there."
There's more. According to state documents, [the physician] Gross in February was reprimanded and fined by the New Jersey attorney general for "failing to adequately ensure proper patient treatment involving the prescribing of hormones including steroids" at a Hackensack health and wellness center he founded."

"You don't see a lot of prattling by doctors about their patients. Then, you don't see a lot of second opinions on mild muscle strains. If, by the end of the day, the good doctor had missed a single New York media outlet, it was an oversight on his part. [Nobody paid me,' Gross told the Bergen County Record, for one. 'I did it as a favor. … I thought it would be fun. It's my five minutes of fame.'
"Given the gravity of the moment, his career possibly at stake, Rodriguez discovered the ballpark streaker of doctors."
Great line.

MLB is said to be offering A-Rod a deal that would include suspension for the remainder of 2013 and all of 2014. If A-Rod accepts, he would still be eligible to receive roughly $60M owed to him after 2014.
If A-Rod doesn't accept, MLB will seek a lifetime ban.
Sources close to A-Rod say he intends to fight it and risk the lifetime ban.

Of course he does. Because he's Alex Rodriguez and he's smarter than everyone else.

Good, that makes it more interesting.

He damn well should fight it because this looks like nothing more than a clever attempt by the Yankees to get out of his contract. Screw that.

Saddest case is the Astros' prospect who couldn't crack the major league roster despite PED use:
"Major League Baseball has agreed to 50-game suspensions with 12 players for their roles in the Biogenesis case, FoxSports.com reported Monday.
Alex Rodriguez was expected to be served with the harshest penalty, and an announcement was expected later Monday.
The players confirmed by FoxSports.com to have agreed to the suspensions without the right to appeal are:
• Nelson Cruz, Texas Rangers outfielder.
• Everth Cabrera, San Diego Padres shortstop.
• Jhonny Peralta, Detroit Tigers shortstop.
• Antonio Bastardo, Philadelphia Phillies reliever.
• Jordany Valdespin, New York Mets outfielder.
• Francisco Cervelli, Yankees catcher.
• Jesus Montero, Seattle Mariners catcher.
• Cesar Puello, New York Mets outfield prospect.
• Fautino De Los Santos, San Diego Padres pitching prospect.
• Sergio Escalona, Houston Astros pitching prospect.
• Fernando Martinez, New York Yankees outfield prospect.
• Jordan Norberto, free-agent pitcher.
Milwaukee outfielder Ryan Braun was the first player to reach an agreement with MLB on a suspension for his connection to the Biogenisis case."

Yahoo:
Alex Rodriguez, the highest-paid player in baseball history and once regarded as an antidote to the game's steroid era, was suspended on Monday for 211 games after being found in violation of Major League Baseball's anti-drug policy. The suspension begins Thursday.
Rodriguez is appealing the ban – which extends through the 2014 season – and, as a player who has not been suspended previously, can play during the appeal process. He is expected to be in the New York Yankees lineup Monday night for their game against the Chicago White Sox.

Yankees should just cut him. They are going to be stuck with his contact anyway. Might as well cut out the cancer.

The idea that the Yankees have him out there while under appeal is disgusting ....

Now I'm not suggesting that MLB might have an advantage in the appeal process, but this thing has been tried in the media for several months, AND the last time MLB lost an arbitration involving a PED user, the arbitrator who ruled against MLB ended up getting fired.
I wonder how this will go for A-Fraud.

No way. The Yankees will use every ounce of this to gain publicity. They are third in attendance. You'd have to go back to 2002 to find the last Yankees season not to finish first in the league. This has galvanized an otherwise boring season that's going to end without playoffs. And if they can win a few games in the process they'll take it.

MLB completely bitch-slapped A-Roid's attorney today.
A-Roid's attorney has been running around the media circuit claiming that he would love to divulge all of the evidence in the A-Roid case, including the following statement:
"I will make Manfred a deal if he, in writing, waives the confidentiality clause, and agrees that it would not be a breach of the confidentiality clause, if he allows us to discuss exactly what he wants us to discuss, including the testing result, including the specifics of the tests, the results, we would be happy to discuss it. It would be my pleasure to discuss it. I would love to discuss it. But the minute I discuss it, I'm in violation of the confidentiality clause of the JDA," Tacopina said.
This morning, A-Roid's attorney was on the Today Show. During the show, Matt Lauer handed Tacopina a letter from MLB Executive VP Rob Manfred which stated:
"While we believe that your public comments are already in breach of the confidentiality provisions of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program (the "Program"), we will agree to waive those provisions as they apply to both Rodriguez and the Office of Commissioner of Baseball with respect to Rodriguez's entire history under the Program, including, but not limited to, his testing history, test results, violations of the Program, and all information and evidence relating to Rodriguez's treatment by Anthony Bosch, Anthony Galea and Victor Conte. Specifically, both Rodriguez and the Office of the Commissioner will be permitted to publicly disclose information and documents relating to:
"1. their results; 2. All drug tests that were conducted on Rodriguez under the Program and All prior violations of the Program committed by Rodriguez; 3. All documents, records, communications, text messages, and instant messages relating to Rodriguez's treatment by Anthony Bosch; 4. All documents relating to Rodriguez's treatment by Anthony Galea and Victor Conte; and 5. All documents relating to the issue of whether Rodriguez obstructed the Office of the Commissioner's investigation."
A-Roid's attorney claimed it was a publicity stunt and empty gesture by MLB since MLBPA would have to agree to the waiver. Funny how he failed to mention that when engaged in his own publicity stunt.

Arbitrator rules in favor of MLB, but reduces A-Roid's suspension to the 2014 season (including the post-season.

I think I read that the Yankees still owe him $60+M over the last 3 years of his current deal. A-Rod isn't walking away from that. The interesting (and perhaps sad) part of this is whether they simply release him and, if so, whether anyone will take a chance on him. If not, I could see him bringing some sort of collusion suit against the league.
I realize a lot of athletes have a degree of disconnect from reality, especially as they age, but I've never seen anyone with less self-awareness than A-Rod. His efforts to portray himself as a victim are pathetic.

I highly doubt arods appeal will help him but i suppose he has to take that step to save face as to his innocence. Really it is a break for the yankees. Saves them 25million dollars. I am sure they are dissappointed it wasnt a life time ban. I know the union would never allow the idea but a ped violation should void contracts. It is a lie and a fraud to the employer.

At this point A-Rod has no face to save. Even compared to guys like Clemens and Bonds, A-Rod is a much bigger pariah because he's tested positive and admitted to using PEDs.
He's almost as big an outcast as Canseco. A-Rod just hasn't accepted it yet.

The arod/canseco comparison is a good one.
